Jamie Theakston announces cancer diagnosis and break from Heart Radio

As a long-time admirer of Jamie Theakston‘s captivating charm and versatile talent, hearing about his recent health battle has undeniably stirred a mix of emotions within me. His unwavering spirit, resilience, and optimism are truly inspiring.

Jamie Theakston, a TV and radio host, recently disclosed that he’s been diagnosed with early-stage cancer affecting his voice box (larynx).

Theakston – who has been a fixture on Heart Radio for almost two decades – shared a statement online in which he assured fans that, despite the diagnosis, the outlook was currently “positive” and he hoped to have only a short break from the airwaves.

He wrote: “So… I have cancer… but cancer doesn’t have me! The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October.”

He shared that up until that point, doctors had recommended him to “take a break from speaking” and promised to let his audience be taken care of by “Jason King and Amanda Holden.

He added: “Huge thanks to them and all the Global Family who have been unbelievably supportive. Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell.”

Previously, Theakston disclosed that doctors found a growth on his vocal cords, which he subsequently had surgically removed. Initially, he sought medical help due to fans contacting him, as they had observed a difference in his speaking voice.

On today’s broadcast, Holden and King shared some heartening news. King reassured the audience, saying, “He’s on the mend. He’s looking forward to rejoining us shortly.

In the meantime, Holden remarked, “I can tell that once this news is shared, everyone tuning in will undoubtedly send their warmest regards to our monarch.

“Our lovely Jamie, who is going to be better and back with us very soon.”
