On tonight’s episode, February 27th, Dr. Jana Denzel stunned everyone by deciding to leave “The Apprentice“. This decision caught the attention of both her fellow contestants and Lord Sugar themselves.
In the fifth week of the series, the participants were given a challenge: to design a unique Easter chocolate egg to pitch to major retailers such as Tesco and Waitrose. The stakes were high, and everyone had a chance to shine.
At Lord Sugar’s instruction, Dr Jana took on the role of project manager for this week’s assignment. Instead of designing a high-end product, his team focused on creating an Easter egg for kids. However, their design didn’t seem to appeal much to the children or potential buyers.
Before Lord Sugar could even gesture towards dismissal, Dr. Jana swiftly shared that he was eager to take a step back from the process – but what was the reason behind this decision?
In simpler terms, Jana stated, “A business partnership is similar to a marriage; it needs to suit both parties well.” Therefore, she chose to withdraw from the process not in the fifth episode, but at the end of the fourth one, following some remarks made by Lord Sugar.
Last week’s episode concluded with a stark warning from the business tycoon to me: “You’ve been surprisingly silent over the past month, and I haven’t noticed much from your end. Interestingly enough, for the next challenge, you’ll be taking on the role of project manager – whether you’re ready or not.
However, for Jana, he thought he had been the opposite of “very, very quiet”.

I wondered, ‘Given that I am pouring 100% effort into all these tasks, and others seem to acknowledge my leadership in negotiations and tasks, yet you don’t. Is it that we are suited for each other? Will we make a good team as business partners?’
In the fifth episode, I found myself expressing to the other contenders that they should simply enjoy themselves throughout, whether they emerged victorious in the challenge or not.
He also mentioned, “I believe I expressed earlier, ‘Regardless of the outcome, I feel this isn’t quite the right match for me.’

Jana emphasized that his departure from the series in no way reflected poorly on Lord Sugar, and she had believed they shared some common traits. However, he had made up his mind, and no persuasion would alter his choice.
When he presented me with another opportunity, I hesitated momentarily, and it seemed like Liam standing nearby was saying, “No, he doesn’t want to participate!” But I countered, “Would I rather be here than either Jonny or Emma, who may not have contributed much, if I had to bring two more people back in case we were losing – would I desire this more than they do?
Instead, let me express it this way: “To be honest, I feel they desire it more than I do. It wouldn’t be right for them to take the blame or bear the brunt. So, I chose to leave on my terms.
Was there perhaps a factor that shifted Jana’s decision? To put it simply, nothing did – however, if Lord Sugar hadn’t made his remark during the fourth episode, the outcome might have been significantly altered.
Jana stated: “Indeed, if he hadn’t made those remarks and instead simply said, ‘Jana, I’d like to see you as PM in the future’, that would have been fine. [However], ‘you’re incredibly quiet, I haven’t heard much from you.’ That’s not accurate. So, I believe it was this comment, which made me firmly decide on my choice.
