Jana Kramer doesn’t wanna be anything other than a source of support.
She considers herself more like a “friendly companion” rather than a stepmother towards her husband Allan Russell‘s teenager son Troy, who is from a past relationship.
On the June 18th episode of iHeartRadio’s Whine Down with Jana Kramer podcast, Jana told Allan, “Your mom is incredible, and I’m here for you, offering friendship and support.
She added, “Indeed, I’m a stepmother. Yet, I don’t see my role as that of a traditional mother figure. Instead, I view myself more as a friend since he already has an excellent mother.
Jana stated that she deliberately avoided presenting herself as a stepmother figure to Troy, having experienced the pain of parental divorce in her past, and recognizing how uncomfortable it can be when new partners are introduced to a family.
She remembered telling her father something along the lines of, ‘I’m not seeking another mother figure,’ because she knew it was more challenging for step-parents to join a family with older children.
The singer of “I Got the Boy”, who has children Jolie (age 9), Jace (age 6) with ex Mike Caussin, and a son Roman (19 months old) with Allan, adjusted her co-parenting strategy regarding Troy, explaining, “I don’t get to spend as much time with him as I would prefer.
“I just always just want to be at least a friend,” she added. “Someone that’s always there.”
Allan takes great pleasure in observing how seamlessly they’ve merged their families. He even mentioned this to the actress from 90210, sharing that Troy confides in her things he doesn’t share with Allan.
“You do it well,” the former soccer player told Jana. “He knows he can have a laugh with you.”
Allan added, “It goes back to kids wanting stability and safety.”
