Janelle Brown Reveals Her Son Garrison’s Alcohol Battle and Tragic Death

Janelle Brown is sharing details about Garrison Brown’s demons.

In the May 4 broadcast of Sister Wives , they shared the tragic news of Garrison, son of Janelle and Kody Brown, who took his own life at the age of 25 in March 2024. Throughout the episode, Janelle, mother to five other children with ex-partner Kody, spoke candidly about Garrison’s battles with alcohol in his final years.

She explained to the cameras, ‘I’m not sure what caused it, but despite never being fond of alcohol before, he suddenly took to drinking during the pandemic. Something changed in the past year that seemed to have a strong impact on him.’

But despite Garrison’s loved ones offering him support, Janelle said he continued to struggle.

In her own words, she shared, “We provided him with unlimited affection, assistance, resources – everything you could possibly think of. It wasn’t a matter of lack. What transpired on that particular night, I can’t explain. He had similar episodes where he’d consume alcohol, then become inactive for a while, but he’d recover by the next day. That night, however, something was different.

Later, Janelle confided in her sister Carrie about Garrison’s struggles.

She explained to Carrie over the phone that he was dealing with anxiety and depression, which led him to turn to alcohol as a means to ease his distress. However, this only made things worse, as he spiraled out of control, becoming an uncontrollable force. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t help him. I acknowledge that we did everything possible, I understand that.

In simple terms, she shared about how she coped with her sorrow during the first few days and weeks after her son’s death.

She remarked in a private conversation that it’s second by second, moment by moment, and day by day. Sometimes, I may forget that he’s gone, only to be reminded again.

For the very first time, viewers will witness a heartfelt conversation about Garrison’s demise involving Janelle, Kody, and the entire Sister Wives clan on camera. However, it’s worth noting that Garrison’s close ones have been open and forthcoming about his passing in the days following the event.

Among the messages they want fans to hear: The importance of mental health.

Madison Brush emphasized during an Instagram video on March 18, only weeks after her brother’s passing, that mental health is crucial yet often overlooked. She believes we need to discuss it more and take greater steps to raise awareness about it. “It wasn’t bullying or a lack of affection that affected Garrison,” she explained, “it was his mental health, and I will keep advocating for mental health and self-care until I turn blue.

She also addressed the role social media can play in affecting users’ mental health.

Madison stated, “Social media is more about highlighting the best moments rather than reflecting reality, a topic Garrison and I often discussed. It seems my other siblings and mom have also shared this sentiment. They felt pressured because they compared themselves to social media content, which can be deceiving. We need to keep in mind that what we see on these platforms may not always be authentic.
