Japan Sales Charts: A PS5 Game Finally Rules the Roost as Like a Dragon Plunders

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve just learned that Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has been making waves, skyrocketing to the number one spot on the latest Japanese sales charts since its release on February 21st. It seems everyone’s talking about it!

You might have observed that we don’t discuss charts frequently anymore, mainly because there isn’t much happening related to PlayStation that is worth mentioning. However, it’s refreshing to find a PS5 and PS4 game selling a decent amount of copies now and then.

Majima’s psychological journey saw sales of 68,200 units on PlayStation 5 and an extra 37,000 on PlayStation 4, demonstrating that the previous-generation console remains popular in Japan. Unsurprisingly, the upper echelons of the sales chart are primarily filled with everlasting Nintendo Switch games.

Despite the widespread launch of the PS5, the console has yet to experience a significant sales increase. Initially, only 6,600 base models were sold, with the PS5 Pro following closely behind at around 5,200 units.

Next week, I can’t wait to see the game charts and get a glimpse of just how big Monster Hunter Rise has become in its home country. This action RPG is predicted to boost PlayStation 5 sales as well.
