Jason Kelce Roasts Travis Over Old Easter Tweet and Fans Are Shocked

Travis Kelce can’t hide from his old wholesome tweets.

Thanks to his sibling, Jason Kelce, the notable star of the Kansas City Chiefs, has just made his most amusing declaration yet – a heartfelt letter dedicated to Easter.

In the April 23rd episode of their podcast “New Heights,” Travis Kelce, who’s 37 years old, playfully referenced an old tweet of his brother’s. The tweet, originally posted in 2010 and since deleted, read: “Happy Easter to all. Shout out to Jesus for taking one for the team.” Travis found the ‘Ha ha’ at the end particularly amusing.

Travis, aged 35, chuckled and dismissed as absurd the posts he made while studying at the University of Cincinnati, which were initially shared on X (formerly Twitter), but gained widespread attention on Easter.

He went on to say, “This is really quite silly,” followed by reiterating the playful spirit of his tweet. “However, I felt it was important to clarify that I was simply joking around about this subject. I wasn’t taking it overly seriously.

Meanwhile, Jason, who is married to Kylie Kelce and has five children – Wyatt (5), Elliotte (4), Bennett (2), and just 3-week-old Finnley – defended his brother’s tweet. However, it wasn’t only because Jesus represents selfless sacrifice that Travis celebrated the holiday; there were other reasons as well at that time.

The NFL player disclosed that he’d be having a holiday from school,” Jason jokingly realized. “I assumed it referred to a spiritual understanding, but it turns out it was just about a free day? That’s quite clever.

Previously, Travis didn’t discuss his old tweets for the first time during this recent session. In fact, last November was when he humorously referenced a 2011 tweet about squirrels. This particular tweet became popular because of a spelling mistake. To clarify for those who missed it, he had written at that time, “I just gave a squirrel a piece of bread and it straight smashed all of it!! I had no idea they ate bread like that!! Haha #crazy.

Travis shared with his brother during their podcast that he was essentially using Twitter like an online journal. He was casually posting random thoughts such as “I just fed a squirrel some bread,” even though he misspelled ‘squirrel’ in a playful manner.

Although Travis Kelce might always have a special connection to Kansas City, Missouri, his childhood was spent in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Instead of naming his alma mater, University of Cincinnati, during game broadcasts with player introductions, the man proudly declares his hometown instead.

Which, as you might guess, has irked some fellow alums.

In 2019, when Travis and his brother Jason Kelce were honored at the Cleveland Heights High School Hall of Fame, he expressed, “I value deeply the years I spent at the University of Cincinnati, but there was a period during my time there that wasn’t simple. It was challenging. I lost my scholarship, and I made some foolish decisions. I suspect many people in this room know someone from Heights who has also made their fair share of mistakes. To my friends, I was the one who made those mistakes.

Beyond just being significant to him personally, he added, this place up here holds a unique charm for everyone. The diversity here is remarkable and stirs something deep within me. Everything I accomplish is dedicated to this city. It may sound trite, but let me assure you, whatever you see of me celebrating in the end zone – that’s my love for Cleveland Heights, on display, for all of you.

2. About that revoked scholarship…

Following their unbeaten 2009 season which culminated in a Big East championship, Travis found himself failing a drug test for marijuana prior to the 2010 Sugar Bowl, an unfortunate consequence of overindulging during New Year’s Eve celebrations in New Orleans.

Apart from forfeiting the bowl game, he faced severe penalties. The NCAA suspended him for the entire 2010 season, revoked his scholarship, and left him without a place to stay. To make ends meet, he moved into his brother Jason’s room in the house they shared with teammates, and took up a job where he had to ask people about their opinions on the Affordable Care Act over the phone.

They did, and Travis could not wait to get back on the field.

3. Before focusing on football, Travis had experience playing hockey, baseball, and basketball. He served as a quarterback in high school, even being recognized as a two-star QB recruit by Cincinnati. However, due to his suspension, he had to change positions and transitioned to tight end as part of his reinstatement to the team.

In his conversation with Arrowhead Pride following his 2013 draft by the Chiefs, Travis mentioned that we had an exceptional quarterback, Zach Collaros, at the time. We required assistance in both our running and passing games, so I discussed this issue with my coach, Butch Jones, who was in charge at that moment. He suggested that we needed a tight end, and since my abilities, agility, and direction matched what he was looking for, it all fit together perfectly for me.

In 2017, when I reflected on an event that didn’t quite live up to expectations, as I shared with GQ, I realized that people had been viewing me as a tight end all along.

4. The house located on 127 West Nixon Street, where Travis often stayed with Jason and other University of Cincinnati students, was frequently the site of boisterous activities fueled by beer.

Tom DeTemple, a college friend and teammate, recounted to the New York Times before the 2024 Super Bowl that the brothers were known for spending hours on their Nintendo 64 console, simultaneously thrashing the controls and drinking beers. He added that they often invented impromptu drinking games during play sessions, and they were exceptionally skilled at these activities.

5. And suffice it to say, Travis is extremely proud of being a Bearcat.

He shared with reporters before the 2023 Super Bowl that it’s deeply connected to his hometown, Cincinnati. You see, he’s always held a strong sense of pride for hailing from the University of Cincinnati. After long years, he finally received his degree. He does his best to contribute whenever possible. Whenever he can, he returns to the university. The players he played with and the people he met there hold a special place in his heart. They’ve stood by him through life’s highs and lows.

When he faced criticism from the NCAA, he asserted, “Those who were part of the team and staff at the university – they trusted me to bring about change and improve my situation. This confidence was crucial for me during that period.

6. Travis finally received his degree in interdisciplinary studies, which he earned over a decade since leaving college for the draft, in 2022. However, it wasn’t until April 2024 that he had a surprise commencement ceremony, coinciding with them taping a live episode of New Heights at Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena.

As the graduate neared the dean to receive his well-deserved handshake upon graduation, he was already clutching a beer can. Following their interaction, he swiftly drained the can of beer.

And Travis was going to graduate in 2022 but he missed his flight.

7. As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but reflect on how off-field matters significantly impacted Travis’s draft position in 2013 NFL Draft, landing him fifth among tight ends and selected by the Chiefs in the third round. Notably, Coach Andy Reid, who had previously mentored Jason in Philadelphia, reached out to the senior Kelce sibling for a testimonial about Travis, a move that undoubtedly paved the way for his successful career with the team.

Andy and Travis have three Super Bowl rings to show for Jason’s endorsement.

8. For quite some time, Travis would play “Burn On,” a song by Randy Newman, before every match, although the kind of music he gets pumped up by may have evolved since then.

As a native of Cleveland’s eastern side, there’s something about this song that takes me back to memories of my family and reflects on where I am in life today, appreciating every moment of it. This sentiment was expressed by him during the NBC Sports podcast ‘PFT Live’ in 2017.

Let us explain: It’s in the opening credits of Major League, the ultimate Cleveland sports movie.

9. Everyone, including Travis, is mispronouncing his last name.

Although they’ve gone with someone named Kelce, who sounds like “Kel-see”, it actually rhymes with “else”.

Travis’ teammate Chris Jones dropped a surprising comment on Inside the NFL in January, saying “Freaky, isn’t it?”, and his brothers verified this when they questioned their father Ed Kelce about it on their New Heights podcast.

Jason wondered aloud, “What made you suddenly decide to alter your name, and now we go by ‘Kel-see’? It seems odd that for over two decades – 27 years in my case, and 25 years for Trav – we had a different name.

Ed admitted he “got tired of correcting people” but urged his son to “do whatever you want.”

10. Travis, who wears jersey number 87, pays homage to Jason, as he was born in the year 1987.

Travis clarified to NFL Films before the 2023 Super Bowl, which saw his Chiefs competing against Jason’s Eagles, that if there is a Kelce legacy in the NFL, it can be traced back to 1987, as that was the year their football journey began with the birth of the older brother.

11. For quite some time, The Travis Foundation and Running has been a generous donor to Operation Breakthrough, a learning center in Kansas City that athlete Travis has collaborated with since his initial visit in 2015 when he read “The Cat in the Hat” to the children there.

Yes, reader, he wore the hat.

Afterward, Travis decided to back the Smart Lab project and purchase the vacant auto repair shop adjacent to it. This move allowed them to broaden their horizons and establish an Ignition Lab, where ambitious students would breathe new life into old cars that were once destined for the scrapyard, transforming them into functional electric vehicles instead.

12. Travis and Jason refer to their listeners as “92 percenters,” a term inspired by a previous comment made by Jason, suggesting that a specific play called a quarterback sneak was successful 92% of the time in football, making just one yard necessary for scoring a touchdown.

According to the podcast’s site, fans seemed delighted and started referring to themselves as the “92 percenters,” a term reminiscent of a private code or password among them.

Who were the Kelce brothers to argue with that?

13. Travis is accompanied by three personal trainers – Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill, and Laurence Justin Ng – who often travel with him, as reported by The Athletic. This is to help him maintain his top physical condition for playing football throughout the entire year.

Alex, being both a physical therapist and an enthusiastic fitness advocate, remembered Travis expressing his desire to take an evening jog, following a busy schedule of fashion shows at Paris Fashion Week. This was due to him not getting his daily workout in on that particular day.

At midnight, our coach was leading us through quick, intense runs across the bridges spanning the river, as quoted in the April issue of The New York Times. This individual always manages to squeeze in and complete whatever tasks are necessary, regardless of his location.

14. Kumar Ferguson, who has been friends with Travis since the fourth grade in Cleveland Heights, happens to be his personal chef.

In 2016, he was a part-time chef and a full-time truck driver. That’s when Travis phoned him with an offer of a chance.

In a conversation with Vanity Fair back in 2023, I found myself nodding in agreement as Kumar expressed his determination to elevate his dietary habits. “I’m all for it,” I said, and just a few short days later, I found myself in the heart of Kansas City, ready to embark on this transformative journey with him.

He takes care of a wide range of tasks, including ensuring Travis’ refrigerator is stocked and providing balanced meals at the Chiefs’ training center.

15. Travis is having his facial hair closely examined more than before, so he shared on New Heights that he trimmed off his off-season beard last year and retained the mustache in 2023 as a tribute to the walrus-like style popularized by Andy Reid. In 2024, he plans to continue this tradition.

16. In April 2024, Travis secured a two-year contract worth $34.25 million, marking the first time in his career that he became the highest-earning tight end in the NFL.

Which finally put an end to years of chatter about how much money he wasn’t making.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2023, Travis playfully remarked, “My supervisors and representatives often point out that I am underpaid. Whenever I bring up the topic of increased compensation, they simply suggest, ‘Perhaps you should approach the Chiefs about it.’

However, as other revenue streams became available to him, his focus shifted from the salary to the overall atmosphere or feeling.

He put it this way: “The free market seems appealing until you find yourself not coming out on top. Winning is what I enjoy, and I’m happy with my current situation.

Admittedly, witnessing other players’ substantial winnings gives a slight pang, as it raises doubts about fairness and whether one’s own efforts are truly valued. Yet, I continue to relish the experience of being at that place every day.

17. Travis has had an interest in fashion ever since his childhood years spent in Cleveland Heights, as his high school was essentially a daily fashion show, according to what he shared with Vanity Fair in the year 2023.

Therefore, transforming the room into a walk-in wardrobe allowed him to store his high-end garments and over 300 sneakers, including a set of Nike Air Mags in size 13, which he bought at a significant cost during his first year’s salary, despite them not fitting properly.

In the early stages of his profession, before the advent of numerous sneaker apps, as he shared with the Wall Street Journal, he would simply purchase the largest size available of the desired shoe.

Although Nike shoes are his primary choice (thanks to their endorsement deal with him), there’s also a special place for Chuck Taylors in his heart. They evoke memories of the fictional baseball star, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez, from the movie “The Sandlot“.

18. Among his dozens of investments, Travis co-owns Ohio-brewed Garage Beer with Jason.

Travis expressed in a June statement that it’s common knowledge he enjoys having a few beers occasionally. He finds it thrilling, he added, to be the owner of Garage Beer and deeply involved in crafting top-notch light beer. There’s nothing more effective at fostering camaraderie than an ice-cold brew, and for Travis and Jason, that’s what beer represents—friendships, family, and good times.

19. We’re sensing a theme when it comes to Travis’ guilty pleasure TV choices.

In the past, it was all about “Gossip Girl”: I can tell you, it’s simply captivating. It’s like a dramatic series set in the vibrant cityscape of New York, filled with high school-like intrigue and an endless stream of rumors and backbiting among its characters.

His new favorite show? Peacock’s Emmy-winning backstab-a-ganza The Traitors.

20. Recently, Travis, who’s in his 12th season in the NFL and is 35 years old, has become more candid about the physical strain football imposes on a player’s body.

However, from the very beginning, he’s faced numerous challenges, starting with his rookie year being sidelined due to a microfracture in his knee, which was the first of the ten operations he’s undergone throughout his professional career.

21. Travis openly discussed an unsuccessful effort he made to gift Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet containing his phone number, during his conversation on the “New Heights” show, as the Eras Tour arrived in Kansas City.

After learning from reliable sources within her circle (people who were aware of Travis and his desire to meet her), she reached out to him directly.

He shared with WSJ. Magazine that she clearly explained the situation to him, and luckily, she contacted him.

For as long as I can remember, there’s one dessert that has always held a special place in my heart – French toast smothered in whipped cream and drizzled with syrup.

But more recently he’s become a fan of his girlfriend’s homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls.

23. Among the tones set for Travis’ phone, there’s one that features Chris Farley exclaiming “Good heavens!” from the movie ‘Tommy Boy’.

He shared with WSJ. The Magazine that he had introduced his love for the comedy of Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell to his girlfriend. He put it simply: “This is what I’m all about.

24. Following their triumphant AFC Championship victory against the Bengals in 2019, Travis ignited the Chiefs’ tradition of blasting “Fight for Your Right to Party” by Beastie Boys after each home game touchdown at Arrowhead Stadium.

Brett Veach, the Chiefs general manager, explained to ESPN in 2020 that Travis Kelce is like a multiplier of energy, which is challenging to measure exactly how significant that is. He plays with such character, charm, and enthusiasm that everyone in our team adores him. Kelce is more than just an energy booster; he lifts the spirits, focus, and attention of everyone around him. Even after a long day, he remains enjoyable company.

However, the lively host who introduced the song into their lives openly confessed that he wasn’t familiar with all the lyrics of the 1986 hit until he was asked to perform it alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in February 2023.

25. I can’t help but gush about it, but back in May 2024, you know who shared his top three Taylor Swift tunes? Yours truly! They were none other than “Blank Space,” “The Alchemy,” and the one that always takes me back to my high school days, “So High School.

Inquired about it back in September, but when asked again, he replied that he couldn’t choose a favorite as he loved them all, meaning each and every one of them.

26. Early on, comparisons were drawn between Travis and the esteemed Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, who concluded his 17-year career in the league in 2013.

In 2015, as discussions swirled about whether he could outdo Tony’s accomplishments and the potential letdown if he fell short, Travis chose to disregard the commotion.

He shared with Complex, “No one sets higher standards for me than I do. My goal is to achieve the most statistically impressive season for a tight end in history.

On September 29th, Travis overtook Tony as the Kansas City Chiefs’ record holder for most receptions, achieving this milestone with his 917th catch.

Travis remarked on New Heights, “It’s amazing how things often return to where they started.” Being at the top of the leaderboard with the Kansas City Chiefs, an organization that dates back to the ’60s – one of the pioneering teams that have persisted and are still thriving today. A significant part of this success can be attributed to their rich history and a man like Tony Gonzalez, who has been a guiding figure for me. I truly admire him.

27. Of Travis’ many accomplishments, keeping his house in order on his own isn’t one of them.

“He can’t clean,” mom Donna Kelce told Extra in September. “He can’t cook.”

However, having someone special visit might have provided an additional incentive for you to tidy up and organize your place.

“He’s getting a little better,” Donna acknowledged. “I think he’s getting some help.”
