If you’re a Peacock subscriber and a fan of this particular actor, here’s some exciting news! The 2011 action movie “The Mechanic”, starring him, is now available for streaming on the platform.
2011 saw the arrival of the action-thriller titled “The Mechanic,” where Jason Statham portrayed Arthur Bishop, an expert assassin known as a ‘mechanic,’ who masterfully orchestrates his targets to appear as accidental deaths, suicides, and common crimes. This film, remake of the 1972 movie led by Charles Bronson with the same name, achieved moderate success at the box office, earning more than $76 million worldwide, despite garnering mixed reviews from critics. However, Statham’s performance and the action sequences were highly commended.
In 2016, a new installment, named “The Mechanic: Resurrection,” came out. This continuation featured Statham reprising his role as Bishop, who had naively believed he could leave his lethal past behind. However, when his deadliest enemy abducts the love of his life, he is compelled to traverse the world to carry out three seemingly impossible assassinations and excel at what he does best – making them appear accidental. Despite garnering less favorable reviews than its predecessor, “Resurrection” was a bigger commercial triumph, earning over $125 million at the worldwide box office.
Jason Statham Remains a Beloved Action Star
Jason Statham has solidified his status as one of the leading action movie stars in this century, outside of the “The Mechanic” series. His appearances include popular films like the “Transporter” trilogy, “The Italian Job,” and “Crank,” along with “The Expendables” and “Fast & Furious” franchises. The latest addition to his action filmography, titled [movie name], could potentially launch another franchise for him since it’s based on the best-selling “Levon Cade” series by Chuck Dixon. Despite getting mixed reviews from critics, the movie “A Working Man” was a commercial success, earning nearly $100 million at the global box office with a production budget of just $40 million.
In a bustling career within the action genre, Statham has multiple films at different stages of production. The first one to hit screens will be “Mutiny”, a thrilling action flick scheduled by Lionsgate for release. In this movie, Statham takes on a role that suits his style, playing an ex-soldier turned cop who is falsely accused of murder and must flee to clear his name. Roland Møller portrays the antagonist, while Annabelle Wallis (“The Mummy”), Arnas Fedaravičius (“The White Lotus”), and Adrian Lester (“The Sandman”) are expected to join in supporting roles.
At present, Jason Statham is involved in the making of an unnamed action-thriller, with Ric Roman Waugh, who directed the Gerard Butler-led Greenland films, taking the director’s seat. After completing that project, Statham will once again portray Adam Clay in a follow-up to his 2023 box office success The Beekeeper. Kurt Wimmer is set to pen the screenplay for this action sequel, and production is scheduled to start this fall.
The Mechanic is now streaming on Peacock.
