Jeannot Szwarc, Jaws 2 and Supergirl Director, Dies at 87

87-year-old French-American film director Jeannot Szwarc, famously known for films like “Jaws 2”, “Supergirl” (1984), and “Somewhere in Time”, has sadly passed away. According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter, this was confirmed by his son, Sacha Szwarc, who is a film editor as well. Mr. Szwarc breathed his last on Tuesday, January 14th, due to respiratory failure at Central Hospital in Loches, France. Besides feature films, Szwarc also contributed his skills to television, directing episodes for shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Smallville”, and “The Practice”.

On her Facebook account, Jane Seymour expressed sympathy upon the death of Jeannot Szwarc, who was the director for the 1980’s movie “Somewhere in Time”, a romantic fantasy about time travel where she starred alongside Christopher Reeve.

Today, Seymour wrote about parting ways with a genuine visionary. Jeannot Szwarc was more than just a talented director; he was a warm-hearted and benevolent spirit. He graced us with numerous timeless tales, one of which being Somewhere in Time, a film that indelibly impacted my life. May his soul rest in peace, and may the beauty of his work continue to resonate within our hearts.

Jeannot Szwarc has also directed several other films, such as the 1982 movie “Enigma” with Martin Sheen, the 1984 film “Supergirl” featuring Helen Slater, and the 1985 Christmas classic “Santa Claus” starring David Huddleston and Dudley Moore.

In terms of TV work, his experience ranges from dramas to superhero series. He’s worked on a variety of dramas including JAG and Without a Trace on CBS, The Practice and Grey’s Anatomy on ABC, Bones on FOX, as well as the DC superhero show Smallville on The WB. Szwarc directed several episodes from these shows, as well as Ally McBeal, Cold Case, Heroes, and Supernatural.
