As I delve into the captivating lives of Jelly Roll and his remarkable partner, Bunnie XO, it’s evident that their journey is nothing short of a beautiful symphony filled with love, resilience, and a dash of humor. Their story is a testament to the power of unity, standing up for each other, and striving for a dream – in this case, growing their family.
Jelly Roll’s daughter has dreams of the courtroom and not the stage.
Bailee, who Jelly Roll had with his former partner Felicia Beckwith, expressed a contrasting vision for her professional journey compared to what her father envisions.
In a conversation on her “Dumb Blonde” podcast on November 20th, the 16-year-old expressed her aspiration to the stepmother, Bunnie XO: “I’m aiming to attend Columbia University to pursue my legal studies.
Baliee made it clear that she wants to work as a criminal defense attorney. But she has her limits.
She shared with Bunnie that each situation requires careful consideration in her professional line of work when it comes to the kinds of people she would not represent. Specifically, she expressed doubts about defending individuals accused of sexual offenses.
Bailee mentioned that she had once nurtured aspirations for a career in the medical sector, yet those ambitions shifted following a recent incident at the emergency room, where she accidentally sustained a deep cut on her arm.
“The real decision was made in the ER the other night,” she quipped about giving up her dream of becoming a doctor. “I decided I don’t want to do that for the rest of my life.”
Currently, Bailee is choosing not to perform on stage with her father, as she has expressed that she’s not keen on music at the moment.
Bailee and Bunnie, aged 44, concurred that the justice system requires enhancement. This is based on their personal experiences, as they have seen it play out with Jelly Roll repeatedly going to and from prison, and Bailee’s mother also spending time behind bars.
Bailee expressed, “It’s quite extraordinary, I must say. I find myself deeply engrossed in this matter because I have a strong desire to revolutionize the judicial system. I believe change can best be achieved by working within the system. Perhaps one day, I’ll serve as a congresswoman. I might pursue law, then become a judge. Who knows, maybe I’ll even become president.
Bunnie encouraged her daughter by saying, “It looks like you’re ready to take a big leap. Aim high, dear, reach for the stars! I’m here as your first mother.
Apart from Bailee, Jason Bradley DeFord (also known as Jelly Roll) is also the father of Noah Buddy, aged 7. He had Noah with his former partner Melisa Ann Cowell. Jelly Roll and Bunnie (whom he married in 2016) are raising Bailee, who does not have a relationship with her biological mother. In terms of Noah, Jelly Roll shares custody with his ex-partner regarding their son.
In July, Jelly Roll beamed with pride as he attended the 2024 Kids Choice Awards accompanied by his two kids. The delightful threesome flashed wide grins while donning matching denim ensembles.
Previously, the artist known for “Need a Favor” shared his story about transforming his life and becoming a more devoted father, as he was unable to attend Bailee’s birth due to being in prison at that time.
In the year of 2022, I found myself in a position where I could no longer act solely for my own benefit. There was a responsibility that wholly depended on me, and I recognized its significance. Consequently, I decided to tackle it with utmost dedication, and I continue to do so till this very moment.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share the exciting news! Just like me, who collects every single one of their albums, Bunnie and Jelly Roll are planning to expand their own family collection too! In June, these music powerhouses announced that they’re tirelessly working on bringing their first child into this world through IVF. I can hardly wait to see the beautiful harmony they’ll create together!
On the June 4th episode of the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, Jelly Roll mentioned that he and his partner are discussing having a baby. This conversation made him realize, as he approaches 40 years old, that if they proceed with their plans, he needs to live until at least 60 so he can witness his child grow up and potentially reach college age.
Bunnie confirmed the news in a caption where she reposted the video writing, “We had planned on doing this privately,” she captioned the video, “but decided our IVF journey needed to be shared because we’ve always been so open. And w/all odds stacked against us, it’s already been hard & we have only just begun.”

The romantic tale between Bunnie XO and Jelly Roll commenced in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. As she shared on ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’, it was during August 2015 when they first crossed paths. This encounter took place at a performance by Jelly Roll, who was then relatively unknown, at the Las Vegas Country Club. He was living in a van at the time, with only around 20 people attending the show.
And they did.
“We got married a month later,” Bunnie added on Bussin’ With The Boys, sharing she wed Jelly Roll at Las Vegas’ Stained Glass Wedding Chapel in August 2016, “and f–kin we did the five-year plan. Literally finished it all the way through to the fifth year. The last thing was buying our own house.”
Another one of Bunnie’s goals was to launch her own podcast.
“When she came out of the sex working industry, I’m sitting down with her and I’m like, ‘Well, what are you passionate about?’ Jelly Roll said on The Howard Stern Show in June 2024. “She’s like, ‘I’d love to do some kind of a talk show.'”
Bunnie left the sex work industry in 2019 and debuted the Dumb Blonde podcast later that year. And she used the money she had made to help fuel Jelly Roll’s dreams.
“I invested in his [2017] Addiction Kills album,” Bunnie said on Sofia Franklyn‘s podcast Sofia with an F. “I helped him with that. He needed custody of his daughter, I helped him with that.”
In 2008, Jelly Roll’s daughter Bailee was born while he was serving time in prison for drug dealing. In a 2023 documentary titled “Jelly Roll: Save Me,” he expressed that Bailee essentially saved his life, as she was too young to understand the situation at the time.
In August 2016, just before Jelly Roll got married to Bunnie and while he was pursuing custody of Bailee, their son Noah was born. The “Need a Favor” artist expressed his feelings on Facebook after the birth, saying, “God Bless this Child to be everything I am not!” He also prayed that neither Noah nor Bailee would ever have to bear the consequences of their father’s mistakes.
Two years after Jelly Roll and Bunnie got married, they parted ways, but their love remained strong and brought them back together later that same year. In February 2023, Bunnie shared a heartfelt message on TikTok: “Who would have thought that our separation in 2018, with me returning to Las Vegas and you coming for me – would lead us on this incredible adventure called life.” They eventually made a commitment to each other and fulfilled the promises they made to one another on their first night together in 2016. Their sandcastle had to fall apart so that they could rebuild on a more solid foundation. Bunnie expressed her deep affection for Jelly Roll by saying, “I love you so much.
In the thrilling world of country music, I, a fervent admirer, found myself strolling down the red carpet alongside Jelly Roll at the 2022 CMA Awards. It was a moment that felt surreal, like two misfits in a ballroom of perfection, echoing the Addams Family’s charm in a different era. As he put it in ‘Jelly Roll: Save Me’, “We don’t fit here, but we’re here.
2023 marked seven years since Jelly Roll and Bunnie exchanged vows again, having first done so earlier. In a heartfelt tribute, the podcaster reminisced on their wedding day when the Grammy nominee promised, “Bunnie, our lives won’t always be like this. You won’t have to do what you do for much longer, we’re going to figure this out.” True to his word, he kept that promise.
“I was clueless about the future, but I didn’t mind as long as you were by my side to face it,” Bunnie added. “The last seven years have been a rollercoaster dark fairy tale. Nothing we achieved as partners and friends was simple. We struggled to become the people we are today, to overcome the childhood traumas we endured, learn to love healthily, correct our past mistakes, and build a home for Bailee that she can be proud of. No matter what life threw at us, we walked through it hand in hand with a smile.”
And they’ll keep doing just that.
“You are the missing piece to my puzzle,” Bunnie said to Jelly Roll. “My sanctuary. The man who makes me dance in my feminine spirit. My best friend, my hero, and the most remarkable man I’ve ever met. They don’t make ’em like you anymore, Jason DeFord.
They carry on living in perfect unity. Interestingly, Bunnie has influenced several of Jelly Roll’s songs, such as “Woman” and “Kill a Man,” to name a few.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m always rooting for Jelly Roll, whether from the crowd or at home. In a heartfelt tribute for his 2024 CMT Music Awards, I referred to him as “my extraordinary husband, the architect of outcasts.” This journey hasn’t been an overnight success story; it’s been twenty years in the making.
Without any doubt, Bunnie XO isn’t going to show affection if you cross her partner.
Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnie, have been transparent about their attempts to expand their family. After the “Son of a Sinner” star disclosed they’ve contemplated having a child, Bunnie publicized the measures they’ve taken.
