As a seasoned film enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of cinema over the decades, I must say that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a delightful return to form for a timeless classic. However, it’s not just Tim Burton’s masterful direction that stands out in this sequel; it’s the unexpected influence of Jenna Ortega, who seems to have left an indelible mark on the film’s production.

The long-anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is now playing in theaters, and interestingly, it appears that one of the movie’s leading actors exerted significant influence over the film’s creative direction – even though it was helmed by Tim Burton.

He mentioned that on Wednesdays, she demonstrates a high level of professionalism. She’s studying film and television, and during production, she remains on set between takes. On the set of Beetlejuice, this dedication reached an exceptional degree. In fact, we jokingly say that she acts like a mini assistant director in an unusual manner.

“She’s quite familiar with predicting where the camera might move next. She often tags along with Tim and studies the scene closely, observing lighting setups, watching other performances even when she’s not in front of the camera herself. She’s deeply invested in film, professional to the core, and a joy to collaborate with.”

Ortega previously revealed that she “changed lines” while on the set of Wednesday.

She mentioned that she’d need to discuss with the writers, who might ask, “What about that scene?”, to which she would then clarify why she couldn’t perform some actions.

In the movie, Ortega portrays Astrid Deetz, a character who is the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character (Lydia) from the initial film.

Astrid’s unearthing of the enigmatic blueprint of the town hidden in the loft, along with the gateway to the Hereafter, initiates the storyline in the movie, with Michael Keaton reappearing as a spirit figure.

Additionally, Harper shared insights about the casting of Ortega in the movie, stating: “While we were penning the script, we were right smack in the middle of shooting Wednesday, and honestly, we had no clue what the final product would look like.”

“As we crafted this project, we found ourselves thoroughly enjoying the process. Tim particularly enjoyed himself, which inspired us to develop the script. Interestingly, while writing the script, it seems we unconsciously envisioned her as the potential character, but at no point did we intend for her to play the role. Instead, we created a fascinating character.”

Later on, I recall discussing the script with Tim, and we both mused, “Who would fit this role perfectly?” To which he responded, “Do you really think she’d be interested?” These were our discussions at that time.

“On that note, Tim and Jenna took a seat together, where he provided her with the script several days prior to its release on Wednesday. We were there for the debut, and he casually suggested, ‘Why don’t you give this a read? I’d be thrilled if you could join the project. If you spot something fitting, you might even play this part.’ “

“Here’s what transpired. We found ourselves in a favorable position as she eagerly embraced the opportunity and wished to take on the role. She has a deep affection for Beetlejuice, the original version, making our luck doubly good. Indeed, we’re fortunate to have her. She is an exceptional actress.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in cinemas now.
