Jennifer Garner catches and releases invites to the Met Gala.
On May 5th, stars like Colman Domingo and A$AP Rocky are getting ready to make their way up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art alongside Anna Wintour from Vogue. However, Jennifer Garner, known for her role in 13 Going on 30, is one of the chosen celebrities who won’t be attending this event.
Jennifer has skipped the iconic event since its “Poiret: King of Fashion” night in 2007, an occasion that celebrated the late designer Paul Poiret. Even after 18 years, she shows no signs of wanting to return.
The individual, who is 53 years old, shared with Vogue during their “Beauty Secrets” series episode in December 2023 that they attended the Met ball just once. They expressed that they found it intimidating and, as a result, have not returned since.
Nevertheless, the four-time Emmy nominee reminisces warmly about her past encounter, where she had the pleasure of being escorted by the renowned designer, Valentino Garavani.
She remembered, “That evening, I donned a stunning red Valentino dress, which was truly enchanting. Not only was I his companion for the event, but the entire experience felt grand and significant.
Jennifer, who has children Violet (age 19), Seraphina (age 16), and Samuel (age 13) with her former partner Ben Affleck, is not alone in choosing not to attend the event. Similarly, Zayn Malik, who was present at the 2016 gala, has also expressed his disinterest in returning for this year’s gathering.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d put it this way: In an interview with GQ back in 2018, the ex-member of One Direction expressed his preference for a quiet, productive evening at home over the glitz and glamour of red carpet events, choosing comfort over costly attire in front of cameras.
Meanwhile, other stars have attempted to rectify their Met Gala blunders.
In 2017, Gwyneth Paltrow made a comeback to the event, four years after she openly shared with USA Today that her previous encounter was far from enjoyable, described as “un-fun,” “overwhelming,” and “too bustling.” She reiterated, “I had absolutely no pleasure from it whatsoever.
Evidently, her 2017 experience must have been much better, as she returned again in 2019.
It’s true that some stars politely turn down party invitations, but there are also those who have been explicitly barred from attending. For instance, Tim Gunn confessed to TopMob News’ Fashion Police that he fell into the latter category after offending the reigning Vogue editor during his tenure as a guest.
In that 2016 episode of “Project Runway”, the host simply stated that the story they were discussing was quite straightforward. When asked about the most memorable fashion moment, he recalled an incident involving Anna Wintour, who was carried down five stories by two bodyguards after a fashion show. This unexpected event caused quite a stir.
It’s true that Gunn has never made an appearance on the Met steps on the first Monday in May, a day which marks a significant occasion in his relationship with Anna, as they have been engaged in a bitter feud since then.
Try or not, keep reading for stars who have never attended Vogue’s costume gala…
