2024 marked a thrilling turn of events as Warner Bros announced the continuation of Mordecai and Rigby’s adventures in Cartoon Network’s ‘Regular Show’. This animated series, known for its offbeat take on the lives of park employees entangled in cosmic calamities, was a massive hit on cable television. Thus, a follow-up appears to be an astute move by WB. Not long ago, I had the privilege to converse with voice acting powerhouse Jennifer Hale about various projects such as ‘X-Men ’97’, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and ‘Powerpuff Girls’. Naturally, when the opportunity arose, I couldn’t help but bring up ‘Regular Show’. During our conversation, Hale discussed the upcoming sequel and her potential involvement.
To begin the conversation, Hale expressed her fondness for working on the show “Regular Show”, saying, “I adored working on Regular Show! Adored it, adored it, adored it! We collaborated with such exceptional directors during that time.” When inquired about the potential sequel of “Regular Show”, Jennifer avoided revealing details about her participation. However, she hinted at her desire to be involved if the sequel comes to fruition, saying, “I’ve heard whispers and I would be thrilled to participate in that sequel if it materializes. That’s all I can say right now. I loved Margaret and the show so much.” In essence, Hale implies that she is open to returning to the popular series, should an opportunity arise.
Regular Show’s Sequel: What We Know
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the title of the upcoming sequel could be “Regular Show: The Lost Tapes,” which seems fitting given its connection to the final scene of the series finale, where a VHS tape showcasing Mordecai and Rigby’s escapades was emphasized. Warner Bros announced this potential sequel in the summer of 2024, but as of now, they haven’t provided a release date. Many enthusiastic fans are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
Regarding the cast reprising their roles for the upcoming sequel, it’s been confirmed that Mark Hamill will be returning as the voice of Skips, who is a significant character due to his long-standing role as a guide for many others. In an interview at last year’s Fan Expo Chicago, Hamill revealed that he would indeed be reprising his role by saying, “William Salyers (Rigby’s voice actor) messaged me on DM. He asked if I heard the news and expressed concern, wondering if I was participating or not. It’s as if I’ve grown beyond them. In response, I told him that there can only be one Skips, and he is eager to catch up with his old friend Rigby.” Hamill then shared a gif of someone dancing joyfully in excitement.
It’s rumored that the original creator, J.G. Quintel, might resume his role as showrunner, implying he could reprise his characters Mordecai and Hi-Five Ghost. In the final episode of the series, which was part of Regular Show’s eighth season, Mordecai had a somewhat conclusive ending, along with many other park workers. Last we saw, Margaret appeared to move on to a career as a prominent news reporter after welcoming back her friends who had been stranded in outer space.
