I cannot help but feel deeply saddened by the recurring stories of celebrities facing public scrutiny and character assassination. As a spectator to the entertainment industry, it is disheartening to witness the relentless attacks on individuals who have already endured so much in their personal lives.
Jenny Slate is standing by her friend and It Ends With Us costar Blake Lively.
Following my heartbreaking disclosure of being sexually harassed by Justin Baldoni, fellow actor and director of “It Ends With Us,” and his alleged involvement in a defamatory campaign against me, I found Slate’s claims about these allegations to be deeply troubling.
In response to the reports of an attack on Blake Lively’s reputation, Slate, her co-star and friend from the movie “It Ends With Us,” publicly expressed her backing in a statement given to Today on December 23rd. She emphasized that Blake is a strong leader, a loyal companion, and a reliable emotional support for her and many others who are close to her.
She went on to say, “The details uncovered regarding the assault on Blake are incredibly grim, unsettling, and ominous in every way.” She then expressed, “I hold my friend in high regard, I’m in awe of her courage, and I pledge my solidarity with her.
According to The New York Times, Lively’s grievance (which was submitted to the California Civil Rights Department as a prelude to a potential lawsuit) outlines alleged misconduct by Baldoni and another Wayfarer executive producer named Jamey Heath, that occurred on the set of “It Ends With Us”.
In response to the allegations, a legal representative for both Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios (both mentioned in Lively’s lawsuit), has refuted the claims made.
In a statement issued on December 21st, lawyer Bryan Freedman stated that the allegations are entirely untrue, excessive, and deliberately sensational, with the clear aim of causing harm in public and perpetuating a controversial media narrative. He referred to Lively’s legal action as a last-ditch effort to improve her tarnished reputation.
According to a report by TopMob News, a meeting occurred in January that discussed the alleged misconduct. During this meeting, it was decided that certain actions, specifically no longer referring to Mr. Baldoni’s or Mr. Heath’s past “pornography addiction,” would be discontinued. This change allowed the film production to resume the following month.
Nevertheless, during the month of August when It Ends With Us was published, Lively became the focus of an alleged defamatory campaign intended to harm her public image.
In a statement released through the New York Times, Lively expressed hope that her legal action would expose the hidden, malicious strategies used to punish individuals speaking out against misconduct, thereby safeguarding others potentially facing similar retaliation.
Following the publication of the complaint, Brandon Sklenar, Lively’s co-star in “It Ends With Us”, and Colleen Hoover, the author of the novel upon which the movie is based, have both openly expressed their support for Lively among other celebrities.
On her Instagram Stories, Hoover expressed gratitude to @blakelively, saying she’s been genuine, compassionate, helpful, and understanding since their first encounter. He thanked her for staying authentic and strong. Let her unique qualities continue, he wrote.

Following Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, her It Ends With Us costar and director, alleging sexual harassment on set and participation in a later smear campaign – accusations he has since refuted through his attorney – Colleen Hoover, the author of the book the movie is based on, expressed a supportive message to Lively.
@BlakeLively,” Colleen expressed on her Instagram Stories Dec. 21st, “You’ve consistently been truthful, caring, encouraging, and understanding ever since we first crossed paths. Thank you for remaining authentic just as you are. Continue unchanging, continue thriving.
Blake’s sister, fellow actress Robyn Lively, also weighed in.
Robyn posted on Instagram, “I strongly recommend everyone gives a thorough read to this NY Times article,” she was referring to the NYT piece exposing the malicious and underhanded defamation attempt targeting her sister. “It exposes those orchestrating the ruthless smear campaign.
The actress from Teen Witch subsequently pointed out that it similarly underscores the kind of ordeal Blake is said to have encountered while filming It Ends With Us.
The director of A Simple Favor, which Blake starred in, stood up for her on December 22nd by stating: “I’ve had the pleasure of making two films with Blake, and I can attest that she is incredibly professional, creative, collaborative, talented, and kind. It’s disheartening to see her subjected to this smear campaign. I believe it’s deplorable that she was put through such ordeal.
On December 22nd, the comedian expressed her backing for the former Gossip Girl cast member on her Instagram Story, stating, “I stand with Blake.
Not long after Blake’s complaint became known, the Goop founder posted a picture of Blake Brown’s hair company (The Town) on her Instagram Story with the caption, “I’ve just added it to my Christmas wish list.
Blake’s closest friends and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars wrote a shared post on Instagram on December 22, expressing their support by declaring they stand together with her as she bravely confronts the alleged efforts aimed at tarnishing her good name.
As an utterly devoted fan, I couldn’t help but jump into the comment section when Bart Johnson shared his heartfelt defense of his sister-in-law following a New York Times Instagram post about the turbulent backstage drama they were investigating.
During the production of the film, complaints were lodged against him,” wrote the former star of High School Musical, who is married to Blake’s sister Robyn. “This information was recorded long before the public dispute. The cast stopped following him for a reason. I encourage you to read this article before spreading misinformation. His PR team was exceptional, albeit unscrupulous and distasteful. The tactics used were effective, but left a bad taste. I recommend reading the article, their text message conversations, and his PR strategy to discredit her at all costs. Everyone has flaws, but the public was manipulated.
In the days following Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against her becoming public knowledge, Amber Heard took time to contemplate her own ordeal of enduring intense backlash online while they were exes.
The actor known for playing Aquaman stated to NBC News on December 23rd, ‘Social media mirrors the old adage that a falsehood spreads faster than truth can catch up.’ He witnessed this personally and closely, finding it equally shocking and harmful.
