Jesse Eisenberg‘s highly praised movie “A Real Pain,” where he serves as writer, director, and lead actor, is now screening in UK theaters for the first time, marking nearly a year since its premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
It’s been quite a while for fans since the initial wave of favorable criticisms started rolling in, but it likely seemed much longer to Eisenberg himself – given that he’s attended numerous interviews following the original premiere.
When I chatted with the former actor-cum-director around the holiday season, I inquired about how his personal perspective on the movie had evolved since its initial screening. His response, surprisingly, was quite intriguing.
Previously, he mentioned, “However, during the past one or two years while I was crafting and refining it, I didn’t anticipate that it would be warmly accepted.
Eisenberg further expressed that these reservations became even more pronounced during the final screening of the movie in New York, a place where he admitted the response was not as positive as he had hoped for.
The movie is making a significant impact during this year’s award ceremonies, as Kieran Culkin has already won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor – one of the four nominations the film received in total.
