As a longtime fan of Modern Family, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Jesse Tyler Ferguson (JTF) as he navigates the challenges of parenthood off-screen. Having played Mitchell Pritchett, the loving and sometimes overly neurotic dad on the show, it seems JTF has channeled some of that character’s protective instincts into his own life as a new father.
These Modern Family stars’ Thanksgiving celebrations didn’t quite go to plan.
On November 28th, just like a devoted fan, I found myself learning an interesting turn of events involving Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Bowen, who portrayed on-screen siblings Mitchell and Claire respectively in our cherished sitcom. Surprisingly, both ended up in the emergency room alongside their children that day.
In regards to Julie, she is a mother to Oliver, aged 17, and 15-year-old twins John and Gustav, whom she had with her former partner Scott Phillips. She recently posted a photo showing one of her kids outside an emergency room.
She titled the picture, “A vacation isn’t complete without a visit to the emergency room. (Don’t worry, he’s okay though.) Wishing everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
However, Justin Mikita, Jesse’s spouse, also confirmed that they spent their holiday under medical caregivers’ supervision, as he replied to her post with the comment, “We are too.
Not long after Julie’s announcement, Jesse, the father of sons Beckett Mercer (age 4) and Sullivan ‘Sully’ Louis (age 2), shared an image on social media featuring one of them resting on his chest in a hospital bed, which he had posted shortly thereafter.
Thankfully, he had an older sister to turn to.
In a recent Instagram post on November 28th, he noted that he has gained valuable parenting advice from @itsjuliebowen. Hearing that he wasn’t alone in having a child at the emergency room on Thanksgiving day provided him with a sense of comfort.
It’s a relief that Jesse found out the condition that landed them in the ER wasn’t severe. He went on to say about his son, “He’s doing well too.” Jesse also expressed gratitude towards the kind staff at Lennox Health. Indeed, New York City boasts some of the finest healthcare services.
Even amidst the fear, it was Jesse’s screen mother, Sofía Vergara, who expressed her affection with a series of three heart emojis and the phrase “Oh no!!!
However, to confirm that all was well during their Thanksgiving experience, Jesse posted a heartwarming photo on his Instagram Story. The image showed his son elegantly dressed in a suit, looking out from an ornate window overlooking the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade path.
He titled the picture from November 29th as “Grateful for friends aiding us in creating cherished moments of our children’s lives.
