Jessica Biel, known for her roles in films such as ‘The Illusionist’, ‘Blade: Trinity’, and TV series like ‘The Sinner’ and ‘Candy’, hadn’t found her breakthrough role until she starred in the 2003 remake of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. Despite this, Biel was still uncertain that she had found the part destined to alter her life. However, while filming the horror movie, an opportunity arose for her to audition for a role she believed would catapult her to stardom. Unfortunately, her audition for the lead role in ‘The Notebook’ didn’t go smoothly. Biel suspects that it was due to the heavy makeup effects that she couldn’t remove before auditioning alongside heartthrob Ryan Gosling from Hollywood.
In a recent episode of ‘The View’, which we caught up on through Entertainment Weekly, Biel discussed her upcoming TV show titled ‘The Better Sister’. This Prime Video series marks Biel’s return to the thriller genre and she previewed some behind-the-scenes images showing her in gruesome makeup. Reflecting on her characters frequently found drenched in blood, as viewers witnessed in ‘Candy’, she was then questioned about her unsuccessful audition for ‘The Notebook’.
Once upon a time, I was filming ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ and at the tender age I was, I auditioned for ‘The Notebook.’ This opportunity seemed incredibly promising to me, like a dream come true. Ryan Reynolds and the director visited my trailer on set, and we held our audition there. Naturally, I didn’t get the part, but the memory of that moment remains vivid in my mind. I recall being covered in blood, wearing a white tank top, and taking off my cowboy hat to express my eagerness to be swept off my feet by Ryan. It was an unusual, distinctly Hollywood experience.
According to Biel, playing Allie in The Notebook wasn’t an option. However, following her part in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, her career continued to thrive. In no time, she was cast in leading roles in movies like Stealth and London. Despite the criticism of the remake, her performance in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made a significant impact on the industry, solidifying her position as a contemporary scream queen.
‘The Notebook’ Remains a Timeless Classic, Thanks to Its Perfect Cast
According to an Entertainment Weekly article, Britney Spears, Scarlett Johansson, and Claire Danes were initially thought about for the role of Allie. However, Rachel McAdams eventually emerged as the ideal choice to act alongside Ryan Gosling in the enduring romance known as The Notebook.
It’s hard now to envision any other pairing than Gosling as Noah and McAdams as Allie (not only because they had a relationship off-screen). Their roles were crucial in making the movie more than just a typical romantic flick. The duo truly convinced viewers that their on-screen connection was destined, and their chemistry made us believe that their love could overcome the passage of time.
