Jessica Jones Star Krysten Ritter Addresses Potential Marvel Return, “I’ll Be Ready”

As a fan who has closely followed Jessica Jones’ journey since her debut, I am thrilled to hear that Krysten Ritter is open to reprising her role in the MCU. Her portrayal of the troubled private investigator was groundbreaking and resonated with many survivors like myself. The fact that Brad Winderbaum has expressed his enthusiasm for bringing Jessica Jones back to the MCU gives me hope that we might finally see the Defenders Universe reborn, albeit in a different form.

Actress Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). During an exclusive chat for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, she confirmed this news. In her previous appearances, Jessica Jones was portrayed as a survivor of sexual abuse with alcohol issues. She first appeared in her self-titled series within the Defenders initiative, which aimed to present adult-oriented superhero stories. This project, a collaboration between Marvel Studios and Netflix, focused on street-level vigilantes and their gritty storylines.

At this year’s D23 Brazil fan event, when asked about his preferred Defender for a possible MCU comeback, Brad Winderbaum showed great excitement for Jessica Jones. Without any pause, he expressed, “Oh, absolutely Jessica Jones,” and it seemed like Krysten Ritter was just as thrilled to hear the news, exclaiming, “Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting! Isn’t that the guy who decides these things?” She then added with enthusiasm, “Alright Brad, let’s make it happen! I’m ready!” This response clearly shows Ritter’s eagerness to reprise her iconic role for Marvel fans.

Jessica Jones, debuting on Netflix back in 2015, swiftly earned critical acclaim and adoration from fans. What set the show apart was its raw depiction of trauma, addiction, and recovery, subjects seldom tackled in superhero storylines. Kudos go to Ritter’s profound portrayal of the troubled private investigator, which resonated deeply with viewers, earning her a devoted fanbase. The series spanned over three seasons, consistently receiving praise for its psychological complexity and intricate character development.

Regrettably, Disney+’s debut marked the conclusion of Marvel Studios’ collaboration with Netflix for the Defenders universe, which included Jessica Jones. However, after a long hiatus in development, the Defenders are set to reappear within the MCU, courtesy of Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil: Born Again Will Bring the Defenders Back to the MCU

The series “Daredevil: Born Again” marks Marvel Studios’ boldest endeavor to incorporate the Defenders characters into the mainline MCU. It boasts a strong ensemble cast that serves as a link between the Netflix period and the MCU. Notably, Charlie Cox reappears as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, having made previous appearances in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “She-Hulk”, and most recently, “Echo”. Moreover, Vincent D’Onofrio resumes his portrayal of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, advancing his character’s storyline from “Hawkeye” and “Echo”. Additionally, Jon Bernthal revisits his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher, reinforcing the show’s ties to the Netflix universe. Lastly, in a notable gesture of respect for the original series, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson have been called back to reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.

After reuniting the entire Netflix cast of Daredevil, the upcoming series “Born Again” serves as a direct continuation from the show’s three seasons, smoothing over any rough edges by skipping forward in time. Since Matt Murdock previously interacted with Jessica Jones within the Defenders universe, it would be straightforward to bring Ritter back for another season of Jessica Jones. If both Ritter and Winderbaum are interested in this project, the next step is simply discussing and coordinating their plans.

The series titled “Daredevil: Born Again” is set to debut on Disney+ on March 4, 2025 (Tuesday). In the meantime, Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, will appear in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, slated for release on December 20, 2024.
