As a long-time viewer of late-night television, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as I learn about Jimmy Kimmel stepping down from his hosting duties for both the Oscars and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. For over a decade, Kimmel has been a consistent presence in my living room, providing me with laughter, entertainment, and insightful commentary on current events.
As someone who has closely followed the Academy Awards over the past decade, I’ve come to appreciate the consistency and reliability that Jimmy Kimmel has brought to the hosting gig. His wit, charisma, and ability to handle the unpredictable nature of live television have made for some truly memorable moments.
A recent article by Puck News mentioned that Jimmy Kimmel won’t be hosting the Oscars in 2025, making it his third consecutive year. The piece further disclosed that John Mulaney was considered next, which is an intriguing prospect for fans of Mulaney’s witty award show presentations. Regrettably, Mulaney couldn’t accept due to prior engagements.
The 97th Oscars don’t have a host yet, but there’s still ample time before the event in March of next year for the organizers to make arrangements.
Kimmel Stepping Down
I’ve been following Jimmy Kimmel’s career closely, and it seems like he’s considering some major changes. Not only did he decline another offer to host the Oscars this year, but he also mentioned that he plans to step down from “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” once his current contract comes to an end.
On a Wednesday evening, I was utterly exhausted and found myself buried under a mountain of scripts that needed my attention. I had to revise and rewrite numerous pitch concepts for the Oscars, which left me fighting to stay awake with my head nodding dangerously close to my computer. As I confessed to the Los Angeles Times in February, during those tense moments, all I could think was “I can’t wait for my contract to expire.” But then the summer vacation arrives or a strike happens, and suddenly you find yourself longing for the enjoyable aspects of work again, saying, “Yeah, I do miss the fun parts.”
On the “Strike Force Five” podcast, where Jimmy Kimmel teamed up with late-night peers Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and John Oliver, he confessed that this might well be his final stint, despite having pondered retirement in the past.
As a gamer, I’m finding myself at what feels like the end of this gaming journey, but I’ve been here before, and it never turns out to be the last level. It’s tough to admit, especially with all the jokes flying around, but I’ve still got over two years left on my contract, which, let me tell you, seems like a decent amount of time to conquer new challenges and complete more quests!
