In March 2025, the captivating second season of “Solo Leveling” came to a close, showcasing a series of exhilarating battles as the protagonist, Jinwoo, continued to amass power. The narrative commenced with the Red Gate Arc, delving into Jinwoo’s exploration of his Shadow Monarch abilities. As the season progressed, the climactic arc, known as the Jeju Island Arc, saw Jinwoo engaging in an epic fight against the Ant King, ultimately saving everyone on the island. This battle is widely regarded as the finest in the anime to date, with exceptional animation and seamless choreography adding to its allure. The battle was extended in the animated adaptation, serving to emphasize Jinwoo’s evolution into a figure surpassing even the capabilities of an S-Rank Hunter. Remarkably, the Ant King transformed into Jinwoo’s shadow and remains the sole character capable of speech thus far.
I’m eagerly anticipating the official word from the studio about the third season! For those who follow the anime, it might be news: the story in the manhwa takes a massive turn post the Jeju Island Arc. As we delve deeper into the mystery of the Gates, our protagonist Jinwoo is pitted against adversaries more formidable than any he’s faced before. One fight featuring Jinwoo in the manhwa remains my favorite, surpassing even the highly anticipated showdown between Jinwoo and the Ant King.
Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Solo Leveling manhwa!
Solo Leveling’s Best Fight Happens in the Monarchs War Arc
Following the events on Jeju Island, the narrative subsequently delves into additional Monarchs – formidable cosmic entities not yet fully fleshed out in the anime adaptation of “Solo Leveling”. This arc also provides insights into Jinwoo’s true character. In the Monarchs War Arc, Jinwoo encounters three immensely powerful Monarchs who seek to eliminate him. Upon discovering that the Shadow Monarch does not command Jinwoo, Sillad, the Frost Monarch, appeals for assistance from other Monarchs in Chapter 152 of the manhwa. However, only Rakan, the Monarch of Fangs, and Querehsha, the Monarch of Insects, respond favorably to his call. Meanwhile, Jinwoo is also on a mission to find Sillad to exact revenge for Gunghee Go, the Chairman of the Hunters Association.
In a surprising twist, Chapter 153 finds a massive Gate spanning the sky above Seoul – an unprecedented structure that sends shockwaves throughout the country. With the Gates typically opening after several days, citizens carry on with their routines, living under the constant shadow of danger hanging overhead. Yet, before the gate can open, Jinwoo crosses paths with the three Monarchs in Chapter 158.
Solo Leveling’s Best Fight Is Jinwoo vs. the Three Monarchs
In this captivating tale, the clashes between characters like Jinwoo and Beru, as well as Jinwoo against the Dragon King, are undeniably exhilarating. Yet, none can compare to the pulse-pounding encounter with the Three Monarchs. Here, our protagonist stands alone against formidable foes, demonstrating an unparalleled display of courage and might.
Now, I’m no ordinary character – I possess powers that rival even those of the strongest Monarch. Yet, even a force like me isn’t invincible, as my opponents, despite their legendary status, are still capable adversaries. However, even one as powerful as Jinwoo is not immune to his own limitations. Despite all the power he wields, our hero remains tethered by his mortal form. This fragile vessel of strength carries a heavy toll, and Jinwoo paid dearly for it in this epic battle.
In simpler terms,
Jinwoo confronts fearsome cosmic entities alone, confident that he’s the only one strong enough to stand against them. During these battles, Jinwoo is pushed to his limits, requiring a full recovery before defeating Querehsha. Even battles with Sillad and Rakan were tough challenges. In one battle, Jinwoo came dangerously close to allowing Beru, one of his powerful shadows, to die. This is the first time any of his high-ranking shadows have come this close to death. In Chapter 161, an unexpected twist occurs when Rakan strikes a fatal blow on Jinwoo from behind while he was engaged in combat with Sillad.
The Fight Puts Jinwoo in a True Near-Death Situation
In chapter 162, Jinwoo encounters Ashborn, the first-ever Shadow Monarch and Ruler of the Dead, marking a significant, heartfelt, and pivotal moment in the narrative. This encounter, rich with lore and character development, alters the story’s direction entirely. At this point, only a fragment of Ashborn’s consciousness resides within Jinwoo, and his speech, assuming various forms known to the young hunter, carries immense weight. The monologue concludes with Ashborn stating, “I am You,” while impersonating Jinwoo’s former self prior to the Double Dungeon catastrophe that dramatically altered his life course.
In Chapter 162, Jinwoo uncovers the genuine past of the world while others close by presume he’s deceased. Jinwoo’s father intervenes to rescue him and clashes with Sillad and Rakan. Meanwhile, Jinwoo dwells in the deception conceived by Ashborn before the System was entirely erased. As Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo fully manifests his powers without his physical body limiting him. He reappears in Chapter 164 and swiftly subdues both of them. This battle underscores how much Jinwoo has advanced in a brief period, as he now towers above most beings alive, making for an extraordinary fight if the anime manages to reach Season 3 and beyond, showcasing his impressive power on screen.
