Jo Coburn recently shared her intentions to leave her hosting position on the Politics Live program, which she’s been leading ever since it first went on air back in 2018.
The speaker is set to depart from the BBC following a 28-year tenure, starting in 1997 when they joined as a Westminster correspondent.
Throughout her professional journey, Coburn advanced to be one of the top political presenters at BBC News, having reported on significant domestic and global political occurrences for programs such as the Today Programme, the 6 o’clock and 10 o’clock news summaries, and the BBC News Channel.
In 2011, Polly Coburn appeared as a guest on Daily Politics with Andrew Neil for BBC Two. Later, she became the main host of Politics Live when it started airing and replaced the BBC Two program.
Regarding her choice, Jo Coburn expressed: “It’s truly an honor to have sat in the prime seats for Daily Politics and Politics Live, covering the turbulent happenings of the recent past.
It’s now my turn to pass the baton, letting others take charge. Yet, throughout this journey, I’ve cherished every moment, particularly the camaraderie with colleagues and the daily interactions with the numerous guests who graced my studio.
At the end of May, Coburn is set to depart from the BBC. In time, we’ll hear who will replace him as the presenter.
Hillary O’Neill, the head of politics at the BBC, stated that “Jo has transformed Politics Live into the show it is now, which audiences tune in to because they know they’ll get a comprehensive and enjoyable exploration of the most significant political news.
Jo, with expertise as a forensic interviewer and captivating speaker, often utilizes her extensive political understanding to question ministers about topics crucial to the general public. Her absence is deeply felt not only by the audience but also by her peers.
