Jo Koy is not laughing about his recent flight experience.
While traveling from the Philippines to Los Angeles on a flight, the comedian, along with his family and other passengers, encountered an unexpected layover in Japan.
In a video shared on Instagram on April 10th, Koy stated that we had to make an unexpected landing in Tokyo, Japan. However, I feel compelled to express my admiration. The flight attendants from Philippine Airlines were fantastic. You were exceptional, even going beyond the call of duty. You truly proved your professionalism. Thank you for maintaining your composure during a potentially chaotic situation.
In the description, the 53-year-old person explained that the plane had to touch down at Haneda Airport due to a fire in the electrical system that filled the entire cabin with smoke. During this nine-hour hold-up, Koy tried to turn a sour situation into something more pleasant by sharing some Sake with his family before boarding their next flight.
I tip my hat to the exceptional flight crew at @flypal – they were beyond fantastic!” He added. “By the way, don’t forget to tell your loved ones how much you care for them every day.
355 people, including Koy, were onboard the PR102 flight. Despite everyone arriving safely and unscathed, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to probe the reason behind the flight’s deviation, as stated in a public announcement.
Regarding the other travelers on the plane, some have shared their accounts of how terrifying the event seemed at the time.
Valerie Del Castillo expressed that it was extremely unpleasant, explaining to ABS-CBN, “The air was thick with smoke. Everyone quickly grabbed their handkerchiefs to cover their faces, while the crew appeared visibly distressed.
She calmly stated that it wasn’t until the speaker on the intercom, sounding quite anxious, informed us we might need to find an emergency landing spot for the plane, that I felt a pang of fear in her tone.
Jennifer Taylor, a passenger aboard the flight for her birthday celebration, noted that the smoke had begun to dissipate prior to landing at the Japanese airport. Despite the confusion, she acknowledged the admirable calmness shown by the flight staff.
At one moment, Taylor said, there was a great deal of weeping and panic among the passengers. However, some people stood up, and the flight attendants managed to reassure everyone, eventually getting them all seated again.

Around 9 PM Eastern Time, a plane operated by American Airlines subsidiary, American Eagle, was preparing to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C., when it had a tragic accident involving an Army Black Hawk helicopter. This incident resulted in the unfortunate loss of life for all those on board both aircraft.
The aircraft had a team of four pilots and 60 travelers aboard, among them being several athletes who were returning from a national ice-skating training event in the city of Wichita, Kansas.
President Donald Trump called it a “dark and excruciating night in our nation’s capital.”
According to the National Transportation Safety Board and air traffic control, a helicopter carrying three military personnel was flying at an unusual height of 300 feet, which exceeded the standard ceiling of 200 feet near that airport under FAA regulations. Meanwhile, FlightAware’s aircraft tracking site indicated that the jet’s last recorded altitude was 375 feet.
The crash remains under investigation.
As a lifestyle expert, I emphasize the importance of considering every relevant factor when investigating an incident such as an accident involving humans, machines, and the environment. Just like I advise my readers to examine all aspects of their lives for optimal well-being, so too does the National Transportation Safety Board Chair, Jennifer Homendy, approach accident investigation comprehensively. This includes scrutinizing all individuals involved in the incident, examining both aircraft and helicopters, and assessing the operational environment. These steps are crucial to understanding the events that led to the mishap and ensuring safety for everyone involved in the future.
Since the tragic incident involving Colgan Flight 3407, which struck a residence in the Buffalo, New York area in 2009, resulting in the loss of all 49 passengers and an additional person on the ground, this marks the first fatal commercial airline accident on American soil since then.
Approximately six o’clock in the evening, eastern time, a Learjet 55 belonging to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance suffered a crash on a road in northeastern Philadelphia.
The tragic incident involved everyone on board the aircraft – a young individual recently discharged from treatment for a critical illness, her mom, a physician, a paramedic, and two pilots – all of whom perished, alongside a 37-year-old motorist who happened to be at the scene.
The crash happened barely a minute into the flight, which had taken off at 6:06 pm, as reported by FlightAware. The plane was scheduled to land in Branson, Missouri, before returning the mother and patient back home to Mexico.
Shai Gold, a representative from Jet Rescue, stated that she battled significantly to endure, and regrettably, there was a tragic incident during her journey back home.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is still investigating the cause of the crash. According to a report released by NTSB on March 6, as reported by NBC Philadelphia, it appears that the cockpit voice recorder, often referred to as the “black box,” did not record any audio from the flight and may have been malfunctioning for several years prior.
9 individuals were traveling approximately 140 miles from Unalakleet, Alaska, to Nome, when their Bering Air Cessna Caravan crashed around 40 minutes into the journey.
On February 7, three bodies were found amidst debris located about 34 miles southeast of Nome. As reported by the U.S. Coast Guard, they had reasoned that the other seven individuals, including the pilot, were likely trapped within the aircraft due to its unreachable and damaged state.
In a statement, Senator Lisa Murkowski described Alaska as feeling more like a close-knit town than a vast state. She said, “Whenever misfortune occurs, it’s seldom that we’re detached from the Alaskans who are personally affected. Yet, this also means that in times of sorrow and healing, we unite as one community.
The NTSB said it would be investigating the crash.
A tragic incident occurred when a Learjet 35A, which was owned by the frontman of Mötley Crüe, Vince Neil, collided with a stationary plane (later identified as a Gulfstream G-200) after it swerved off the runway during landing at Arizona’s Scottsdale Airport at around 2:39 p.m., local time, according to a statement from attorney Worrick Robinson IV based in Nashville.
Neil was not onboard at the time.
The attorney described the situation as swiftly developing, occurring within an ongoing investigation. He also mentioned that Mr. Neil extends his sympathies and well-wishes to those affected, and is thankful for the quick response of all emergency personnel on site.
Initially, there were four individuals on the Learjet. Later, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) verified that the pilot unfortunately perished in the incident, whereas the co-pilot and one of the passengers sustained severe injuries.
According to WMTV 15 News, a preliminary report from the NTSB released on March 3 indicates that both surveillance and cell phone videos captured during the incident showed that the jet’s rear left landing gear was positioned at an angle as it came close to the runway in Scottsdale.
The report further mentioned that the same team of pilots had encountered a problem during their landing in McAlester, Oklahoma, on the 20th of June, 2024.
or
Besides other findings, the report highlighted that the flight crew had experienced difficulties while landing at McAlester, Oklahoma, specifically on the 20th of June, 2024.
The pilot had a mechanic carry out routine checks and further repairs on the aircraft in December, as mentioned in the report. Another mechanic working on the landing gear observed that nothing seemed abnormal, according to the report, but the left landing gear required an unusually high amount of lubricant.
Delta Airways Flight 4819, departing from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, made an emergency landing in an inverted position at Toronto Pearson International Airport, resulting in a fire on board with approximately 80 passengers on board.
According to Deborah Flint, the president and CEO of Toronto Pearson, all individuals involved made it through safely, and twenty-one others received medical attention for minor injuries that were not critical.
In an instant, I found myself lying on my side, Pete Koukov explained on TODAY on Feb. 18. “I looked down and saw sparks and flames as something scraped the ground below us. The incident occurred surprisingly fast and we were left hanging from our seat belts upside-down.
In the end, he noted, “People disembarked fairly organized. The situation didn’t appear excessively chaotic after the plane halted, as it became clear to most passengers, since there were no major injuries, everyone was generally safe.
It was made clear by Flint that the event took place under good weather conditions, and currently, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is looking into it.
Approximately 8:30 a.m., Mountain Time, two small, single-engine aircraft – a Lancair 360 MK II and a Cessna 172S – suffered a midair collision at Marana Regional Airport, located close to Tucson, Arizona.
In simpler terms, a Cessna safely touched down, whereas a Lancair crashed close to runway 3, resulting in a post-crash fire that unfortunately took the lives of at least two individuals, as stated by the NTSB.
As per the FAA’s report, there were two individuals on each aircraft. Later, it was confirmed that the man and woman in the Lancair were the ones who tragically passed away.
In my passionate role as a fervent admirer of the Marana Town and its Regional Airport, I want to express heartfelt sympathies to everyone who has been affected by this unfortunate incident. As the Superintendent of the airport puts it, we are confronting an extraordinary situation, and I’m deeply grateful for the prompt actions taken by the Marana Police Department and Northwest Fire District.
On its journey from Newark to Indianapolis, FedEx Flight 3609 encountered a bird shortly after takeoff, necessitating an unexpected landing as an emergency measure.
Despite the intense, flaming images captured during the incident involving a Boeing 767, it’s worth noting that the aircraft successfully touched down at Newark Liberty International Airport at 8:07 a.m. Eastern Time. Fortunately, all three individuals on board the cargo flight escaped unharmed.
According to a statement made by FedEx to NBC News, the crew operating a B767 plane had to declare an emergency and safely return to Newark due to engine damage, which also triggered an engine fire. They expressed gratitude towards the swift actions taken by both the crew and the first responders during this incident.
Aircraft specialist John Cox explained to NBC News that planes like the Boeing 767 are approved for flight even if one engine malfunctions, ensuring they can continue flying safely under such circumstances.
Essentially, Cox stated that this situation is similar to any regular malfunction within an engine, leaving only one engine functional. There are established procedures for such cases, and pilots undergo training for them, ensuring a secure touchdown.
On a tragic day, a solitary plane, operated by U.S. Bank’s Vice Chair Terry Dolan, unfortunately collided with a residential dwelling inhabited by two people, located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
On that very day, I, as a dedicated follower, can confirm that Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway stated at a press briefing that unfortunately, there were no survivors on board the aircraft. He also mentioned that the number of passengers on the plane was not yet clear.
Two days afterward, it was officially declared that Dolan had passed away by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, attributing the cause of death to various traumatic blows.
Furthermore, those who lived in the house that was tragically consumed by a large fire following the incident – Kenneth Tobacman and his spouse Mary Butler – have since shared their harrowing account of the ordeal from their unique point of view.
Suddenly, Kenneth exclaimed on “Good Morning America,” “There was a massive explosion-like sound!” The lights flickered off, followed by a bright flash, perhaps sparks or faint smoke. His immediate reaction was, “What on earth is happening?
