Joe Exotic, the famous Tiger King character (whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage), recently announced on social media that he’s found love behind bars and is now engaged to another inmate named Jorge Marquez.
Joe introduced Jorge Marquez in his October 28th post on X, complete with a snapshot showing them as an engaged couple. A message below the picture reads ‘Got Engaged to Jorge Marquez’. At 33 years old, he’s simply fantastic and hails from Mexico.
And he further shared insight into their future plans.
Currently, our plan is either to marry while he’s in prison and seek asylum for him, or leave America once we’re both released. Regardless, I can’t help but think about how great it would be if I had met him earlier,” Joe explained.
Despite currently finding contentment within the Florida correctional facility he calls home, Joe has expressed his intention to challenge his conviction for the attempted murder-for-hire of Carole Baskin. This crime originally led to a 22-year sentence, but the judge later reduced it by one year.
Joe, who was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer in 2021, shared with the Tampa Bay, Florida NBC News affiliate Channel 8 that it’s been a challenging time for him. Indeed, he said, it has.
After serving his prison term, Joe has thoughts beyond just emigrating; he also intends to sever all ties with his past, specifically his notoriety as an exotic animal park owner. He shared this with News Channel 8, stating unequivocally, “I will never own another animal again.
Since my life became publicly known through the unforgettable Netflix series that resonated with people during the early COVID-19 lockdown, not just my career has undergone a transformation. In fact, I parted ways with my former husband, Dillon Passage (a character prominently displayed in the show), soon after I started serving my prison term in 2021.
In a now-removed Instagram post, Dillon announced that he and Joe have chosen to part ways through divorce. This wasn’t an easy choice for either of them, as they both recognize the circumstances aren’t ideal for either party. It’s not something they had anticipated, but they plan to face each day as it comes.
In August 2023, Dillon publicly announced his engagement to John Devarti. However, he mentioned that he still maintains a friendly relationship with Joe.
He mentioned that he intends to keep Joe as part of his life moving forward, and will strive to assist him during the upcoming legal struggles aimed at improving his circumstances.
