In the horror genre, there are hardly any names more renowned than George A. Romero and John Carpenter. It’s John Carpenter who will be bringing George Romero’s legendary lost film to reality in The Amusement Park Graphic Novel. Storm King Comics has joined forces with Carpenter, writer Jeff Whitehead, and illustrator Ryan Carr to bring this movie to life in a fresh medium. We are privileged to offer you an exclusive sneak peek before the graphic novel’s release on June 10th.
For a considerable period, it was believed that The Amusement Park had vanished. However, the George A. Romero Foundation breathed new life into the film during one of their initial projects. This movie tackles ageism and the way society handles the elderly, using Romero’s distinctive horror style. Whitehead and Carr recognized its potential for a graphic novel adaptation. It wasn’t long before Sandy King’s Storm King Comics became involved, and now, the graphic novel is being brought to life.
John Carpenter, in simple terms, expressed that George A. Romero’s films were already legendary during his student days, and The Amusement Park has an intriguing background. This is a project which holds significant importance to Romero’s filmmaking legacy, and he’s pleased to associate himself with it by offering his endorsement.
According to King, John and George frequently discussed potential collaborations, and this specific project seemed like an exceptional fit. He went on to say that they were thrilled to join forces for this project, as it truly embodied George Romero’s vision, while being interpreted artistically by Ryan and Jeff.
George’s Amusement Park stands out in his collection due to its exploration of the profound issue of ageism using horror as a lens. Transforming it into a comic book opens up the opportunity to share George’s distinctive perspective with a broader public. We are excited to partner with John Carpenter and Storm King Comics on this endeavor, which pays tribute to George in such a significant manner,” expressed Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, the founder, and president of The GARF.
On June 10th, John Carpenter’s presentation of George A. Romero’s graphic novel titled “The Amusement Park” will be available at comic book stores everywhere. Here’s a look at its official synopsis: [official description]
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my thoughts on John Carpenter’s presentation of George A. Romero’s “THE AMUSEMENT PARK.” In this intriguing narrative, I find myself as a young businessman in my twenties, engaged in an unusual conversation with an elderly gentleman who regales me with tales of a bygone amusement park. What starts as a casual exchange soon transforms into an unsettling journey, as I learn the old man yearns to relive his youthful memories. However, this nostalgic trip takes a surreal turn, revealing not only the charm of youth but also the stark realities of aging – the gradual deterioration of our bodies and minds that we all inevitably face.
Instead of finding himself mistreated, an elderly individual encounters a disturbing sequence of activities that mirror late life’s struggles. Progressively worn down, both mentally and physically, this man comprehends his predicament: he’s stuck in a cycle, compelled to re-experience the traumatic ordeal repeatedly. Meanwhile, a young man named William Lincoln uncovers shared aspects between himself and the old man that they are not yet aware of.
