John Cena Joins Mattel's Matchbox Car Movie

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for action-packed narratives and versatile actors, the news of John Cena joining the live-action adaptation of Matchbox has me pretty pumped! I mean, the guy’s been on a roll lately, from his successful stint as Peacemaker to returning to another major franchise in 2025. It seems like this man can’t get enough of our screens!

Actor John Cena, known for his role in “Peacemaker,” is set to join the cast of the upcoming live-action movie titled “Matchbox.” As reported by Deadline, this film will be based on Mattel’s popular die-cast toy vehicle line. Furthermore, Apple Original Films has secured the film package from Skydance and Mattel Films. Earlier reports suggested that Sam Hargrave, director of “Extraction,” would direct the movie, with a screenplay by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper.

The specific details about the movie titled Matchbox are being kept secret at the moment, but it’s known that the film will be influenced by Mattel’s well-known Matchbox toy car line. This iconic brand was created in 1953 by auto enthusiast Jack Odell as a solution for his daughter, who could only bring a toy to school if it fit into a matchbox. When her classmates also wanted ‘matchbox cars’, a legendary brand was born. For over 70 years, the high level of authenticity in Matchbox die-cast cars has been a driving force behind the brand and its fanbase. The movie is being produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, along with Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films.

In regards to Cena, audiences can anticipate his comeback to another significant franchise – Peacemaker – slated for 2025. The second season of this Max series is scheduled to debut during the latter part of the coming year.

In a recent interview, Cena clarified that he is the actor who portrays Peacemaker. When our show became the number one on Max, and we brought back a character thought to be dead, people loved it and wanted more. However, there was a change in leadership at DC, and James Gunn and Peter Safran contacted Cena saying they needed time to get things right, but it would only take a brief pause. Everyone was eager to move forward with their plans, assuring us that everything would fit together perfectly. Now that we’re filming every day, it feels like Season 2 is just around the corner.
