John Cena Opens Up About Headspace, Goals Ahead of Upcoming WWE Retirement Tour (Exclusive)

As a lifelong WWE fan who has watched John Cena’s career unfold since his UPW debut in 1999, hearing about his upcoming retirement tour feels like the end of an era. From his first televised match on Raw to collecting dozens of championships and wrestling over 2,000 matches, Cena has been a constant presence in my wrestling life.

John Cena announced his upcoming retirement from professional wrestling, marking 2025 as his final year in the ring. During a surprise appearance at WWE Money in the Bank last July in Toronto, he declared that his last performance was imminent, saying “the time has come.” His farewell tour is expected to span around 30-40 dates next year, with stops on shows like Monday Night Raw, SmackDown, and major events such as the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.

Big Match John is bent on keeping his word when he hangs up the jorts.

During an interview with ComicBook at the Jackpot! premiere, John Cena made it clear that he plans to retire from professional wrestling in December 2025.

“John Cena stated that no one offering payment could persuade him to continue working for WWE once he retires in December. He’s not driven by ego or financial reasons. Over the years, he’s cultivated a bond of trust and sincerity with WWE fans, both those who admire him and those who criticize him. They understand that when Cena says something, it’s the truth. So, when he retires in December, he means it. That will be his final performance.”

In 1999, Cena first stepped into the wrestling ring for an independent promotion known as UPW. Later in 2001, he joined WWE on a developmental contract, making his televised debut in 2002. Since then, he has been a prominent figure in WWE until 2017, participating in more than two thousand matches and amassing numerous championship titles.

Post-wrestling, Cena plans to continue to represent WWE, but now in an ambassadorial capacity.

John Cena expressed his gratitude for being part of the WWE family as an ambassador, stating, “However, unlike my usual attire consisting of wristbands, jorts, and a ball cap, during this time, you will see me in a suit instead.” He explained that come December 2025, this new formal appearance would replace his casual look, which is the purpose behind the extensive emphasis on his farewell tour.

As a grandmother who has seen generations come and go, I find myself reflecting on the precious moments we shared as families. It seems like just yesterday when my own children were young and now they have children of their own. The times we spent together, laughing, playing, and creating memories that will last a lifetime are priceless.

In the upcoming weeks, you’ll find Cena starring in “Jackpot!“, an action-packed comedy directed by Paul Feig, which will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting on Thursday, August 15th.
