John Simm makes astonishing discovery about biological father in ITV’s DNA Journey

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for Life on Mars, I can’t help but be captivated by the emotional rollercoaster that John Simm and Philip Glenister embark on in DNA Journeys with Ancestry. Having followed their careers since the early 2000s, it’s always fascinating to see these talented actors step out of their fictional roles and delve into their real-life stories.

This week, I’m eagerly tuning into ITV once again for the comeback of DNA Journey with Ancestry. As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but feel like I’m stepping onto the set of an exciting new documentary! Six popular personalities are embarking on a thrilling adventure to trace their roots and uncover hidden truths from their past. Can’t wait to join them on this captivating journey!

In Episode 1, it’s John Simm and Philip Glenister, familiar faces from Life on Mars, who uncover a revelation that deeply stuns John Simm, sending shockwaves through him.

In a joint effort to uncover their ancestral background, Simm uncovers the surprising truth: The man he had believed to be his father was not his biological one.

According to Simm, it had a profound impact on him, altering not only his perspective but also challenging everything he thought was genuine. He never anticipated that a simple favor for Phil Glenister would turn out to be such a significant event in his life, leaving him with the realization that he wasn’t supposed to carry this burden alone.

In the initial broadcast on ITV1 slated for Wednesday, 9th October, Simm embarks on an exploration, uncovering his freshly found family tree and delving into the tale of his unknown biological father.

On his voyage, Simm recalls a chat he had with his mother prior to the DNA test: “When I was born in the ’60s, they were quite young…they were together at one point, then separated and both involved with others, then reconciled, and I was conceived. This story was new to me.

He clarified that a doctor was consulted by his parents regarding some matters earlier, and the doctor assured them everything was alright with the dates in question. However, it was later discovered that this individual was not his biological father, which came as quite a surprise to him.

According to Simm, he contemplated leaving the movie project, but instead, he chose to consult with specialists to learn more about his biological father.

During the entire episode, Simm and Glenister encounter a club manager who informs Simm that his biological father resided in an apartment above a social club for working men, alongside his parents.

He mentions that the memories from playing in that region during the ’80s are constantly on his mind, as he recalls being there when this individual was active and performing at working men’s clubs.

“It’s one of those mad, Back to the Future, Life on Mars things.”

As a movie buff, I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster that reached its peak when I finally met my long-lost sister. She showed me precious memories and heartfelt videos of our shared biological father, offering a glimpse into the past I never knew existed.

On Wednesday, the 9th of October, at 9 PM, you can catch John Simm and Philip Glenister’s DNA adventure with Ancestry on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and the STV Player.
