Johnny Depp Says He Was a “Sucker” for Falling for Amber Heard

Johnny Depp doesn’t live his life with regrets.

Despite the high-profile legal dispute arising from his relationship with Amber Heard becoming public knowledge, the star of Pirates of the Caribbean remains unapologetic and has stated recently that he holds no regrets about the prolonged court case.

Regarding the challenge he experienced meeting his ex in that specific context, Depp pondered over how his turbulent upbringing shaped his romantic experiences.

In his interview with The Sunday Times, published on June 21, he stated, “Indeed, that’s the crux of the matter.” He went on to explain that understanding the origins of being ‘in love with’ is crucial. As for his upbringing, while there was love in his household, it was intense and not the kind of profound love or happiness that he, his siblings, or his parents seemed to have experienced.

In my upbringing, conflict seemed almost familiar – something I’d grown accustomed to, yet never entirely normal. I learned to navigate it, finding moments of entry and exit when I could.

In simpler terms, the man clarified that this factor had an impact on his romantic feelings for Heard, as they were married from 2015 until 2017.

Pondering over my first encounters with the enigma we label ‘love’, it was undeniably puzzling. In other words, if one is as smitten as I am, there are moments when gazing into someone’s eyes, you sense a loneliness, a sorrow that stirs within you an urge to alleviate their distress.

However, he went on to say, “Good actions often lead to consequences. You see, some people, when you try to care for and assist them, may reveal the source of their misery or unease in their expressions. This can take various forms. What’s intriguing is that I’ve focused on this aspect of my life because it involves my mother and father.

In that moment, they declared that their bond was rooted in love and there had never been an intention to inflict either physical or emotional injury on each other.

Two years from then, Johnny Depp took legal action against The Sun newspaper and its publishing company, News Group Newspapers, charging them with libel. This was prompted by an article where they referred to him as a “woman abuser,” a claim that he ultimately did not win in court in 2020.

In 2019, the legal dispute moved to U.S. soil when Depp filed a libel suit against Heard, stemming from an article she penned in The Washington Post titled “I Spoke Up Against Sexual Violence — and Faced Our Culture’s Wrath. That Has to Change,” published in December 2018. This six-week court case was broadcast live, igniting a whirlwind on social media that largely sided with Heard. However, the jury delivered its verdict in June 2022, ruling that Depp had been defamed.

The actor who portrayed Edward Scissorhands shared insights about his late mother, Betty Sue Depp. He mentioned that she often sought respite from the real world and learned to endure a life of misery.

He went on to explain that he wasn’t shocked because he chose to explore certain feelings in a small psychological aspect to grasp what his parents might have experienced. He needed to comprehend his father’s approach. Consequently, it wouldn’t make sense for him to hold onto any resentment.

He replied, “Endless enmity isn’t the solution; casting spells on others is not an option. I am well aware of my identity, that incident was part of my past, and indeed, it served as a lesson for me.

The costly learning experience for the actor led to a heated court battle with his ex-partner after she accused him of verbal and physical abuse following their 2016 divorce. Initially, a settlement was made where he agreed to pay her $7 million.

At that point, they issued a declaration stating that their bond was deeply rooted in love and there was no intention whatsoever to cause either physical or emotional injury.

2 years down the line, Depp filed a libel lawsuit against both “The Sun” and its publishing company, News Group Newspapers, in response to them labeling him as a “spouse abuser” in one of their articles. However, this lawsuit was unsuccessful for Depp in 2020.

2019 saw the legal dispute make its way to U.S. soil as Depp filed a libel suit against Heard, stemming from an article she penned for The Washington Post in December 2018 titled “I Spoke Up Against Sexual Violence — and Faced Our Culture’s Wrath. However, in June 2022, the jury ultimately decided in favor of Depp, finding that he had been defamed by the article.

He expressed that he had no choice but to lay bare a significant part of himself during the trial, as everyone was urging him to let it pass. However, he couldn’t rely on that promise. Wasn’t it the lies and deceit that were circulating globally that would disappear? Nothing like that would vanish. If he didn’t strive for truthfulness, it would be as if he had truly carried out the crimes he was charged with. The consequences of such actions would fall upon his children and their future generations.

He stated, “The night prior to the Virginia trial, I wasn’t anxious because if you’re merely expressing the truth instead of memorizing lines, it’s like taking a chance.
