Johnny Wactor Fatal Shooting: 2 Teenagers Charged With His Murder

As a devoted fan of Johnny Wactor, who I had the pleasure of knowing through his captivating performances on shows like “General Hospital” and “Station 19,” this news about the arrests in connection to his tragic death feels like a glimmer of hope amidst the overwhelming sadness. It’s heartbreaking to think that such a talented individual was taken from us so senselessly, especially while he was simply walking home after a late-night shift with a friend.

The police are shedding light on the people who have been apprehended concerning the case of Johnny Wactor’s homicide.

Three months after I was tragically caught up in a shooting incident in the heart of Los Angeles, associated with my work on General Hospital, Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, who are both 18 years old, have been officially charged with murder, as confirmed by authorities to NBC News.

On August 15, the defendants were apprehended together with Leonel Gutierrez, who is 18 years old, and Frank Olano, who is 22. Barceleau is charged with one count of murder, with an additional allegation of committing the crime during a robbery attempt and using a firearm personally. George Gascón, Los Angeles County District Attorney, confirmed this to NBC News in a statement.

Apart from the alleged crime he’s facing, he’s additionally accused of attempting a robbery, grand theft, and illegally using a firearm. If found guilty, he might receive a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, according to the district attorney’s office.

Beyond being accused of other crimes, Estrada is also charged with an attempt to steal and grand theft, along with carrying a firearm. Given these allegations, the District Attorney’s office mentioned that he might be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.

TopMob News has reached out to reps for Barceleau and Estrada but has not yet heard back.

Simultaneously, authorities have accused Gutierrez of attempting robbery and grand theft, claiming he had a weapon on him. If found guilty, he may spend up to 4 years and 8 months behind bars.

In this rephrased version, here’s the sentence: Olano has been indicted for aiding after a crime (murder), possessing stolen goods, and three separate charges of carrying a firearm as a felon. If found guilty, he may serve up to five years and eight months in prison, according to prosecutors speaking to NBC.

“Johnny Wactor tragically lost his life in a senseless incident as he was heading towards his parked vehicle in the heart of Los Angeles, as stated by Gascón to NBC. Our priority is to pursue justice for Mr. Wactor and bring those culpable for this unfortunate event to face the consequences of their actions.”

37-year-old Wactor was gunned down during the early hours of May 25, following an encounter with three suspicious individuals who were trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car after finishing work with his colleague Anita Joy.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Joy shared her experience of going from sharing laughter, working together, and ending our bartending shifts by walking to our cars, to finding herself holding her friend in the dark streets of DTLA at 3 am, as he took his last breath. She is devastated and filled with rage. The only solace she finds is knowing that she was with him during this tragedy, and it didn’t happen to him alone. Her other source of peace will be seeing those responsible for this brought to justice.

For more than fifteen years, Wactor honed his acting skills in minor roles. Besides spending two years on the show “General Hospital”, he also made appearances on “Station 19” and “The OA”. Notably, his mother, Scarlett Wactor, has found solace in her son’s on-screen presence following his demise.

She said to NBC News in May, “When I watch Johnny in the videos and recordings, I can’t help but imagine him up in heaven, hopefully, partaking in and enjoying it.”
