JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Creator Opens First Public Art Installation

As a die-hard fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, I can’t help but be in awe of Hirohiko Araki and his unwavering dedication to the Joestar bloodline for over four decades now! From Jonathan Joestar to Jodio and Dragona, Araki continues to weave intricate stories filled with Stands and supernatural powers that keep us hooked.

Hirohiko Araki started creating “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” in the 1980s, initially focusing on the story of Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando in “Phantom Blood.” Since then, this manga artist has dedicated his career to exploring the Joestars’ lineage. With works like “Battle Tendency,” “Stardust Crusaders,” “Diamond Is Unbreakable,” “Golden Wind,” “Stone Ocean,” “Steel Ball Run,” “JoJolion,” and “JoJoLands,” Araki expressed his desire to continue working on this series for life. In a remarkable twist, he has incorporated his Stand concept into real-life art in a fresh and innovative manner.

In a fresh development within the Joestar lineage, the manga “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” has launched a new storyline titled “The JoJoLands“. Unlike previous installments that often featured established Joestars, this time Araki introduces Jodio and Dragona Joestar who are on a quest to amass wealth for their mother’s wellbeing. Although it may seem like the older Joestars won’t return, there’s an exciting twist as a beloved character, Kishibe Rohan, has made a significant reappearance in this chapter.

The Fountain Boy Stands

In a recent interview regarding the “Fountain Boy” exhibit, Araki talked about the process of creating this art installation and the dedication he poured into making it come alive in reality. He shared that upon receiving the request, he learned that there was once a monument called “Fountain Boy” on this site, which is now housed in a museum. The idea was to rejuvenate it in a fresh form, and Araki found this concept inspiring. As a manga artist, he rarely gets opportunities for public works, so he felt privileged to have the chance to participate. He put all his energy into designing it.

Araki additionally shared his reasoning behind incorporating Stands from his hit anime series “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” into his latest piece showcasing the Fountain Boy. He mentioned that upon seeing a photo of the “Fountain Boy” statue, he recognized its adherence to the Roman tradition of public fountains. Historically, these public fountains in Rome have been significant symbols of community service. Inspired by this, Araki decided to create a fountain. Fountains are not only aesthetically pleasing but also symbolize the cycle of natural occurrences cascading from above, cleansing and purifying the environment. The Stands in “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” represent hidden natural powers and energies. Given their connection to natural phenomena, Araki felt it was fitting to incorporate several of them within his fountain design.
