As a seasoned gamer and ardent Joestar fan, I can hardly contain my excitement upon hearing that VIZ Media is bringing Steel Ball Run to the West next year! Having grown up with the thrilling adventures of Jolyne and her kin, the prospect of delving into the world of Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli in an animated format is nothing short of exhilarating.
Ever since Netflix and David Production concluded “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean”, fans of the Joestars have been eagerly waiting for their return in the anime world. Although the tale of Johnny Joestar and Diego Brando, a story that many consider among Hirohiko Araki’s finest creations, still lacks an official adaptation into animation, there is some good news for manga enthusiasts: Viz Media has announced that the seventh part, “Steel Ball Run”, will be making its way to the Western world next year.
If you haven’t yet dived into the world of Steel Ball Run, know that this arc sets itself apart from the Joestar series that followed it. Due to the climactic events in Stone Ocean, Jolyne’s battle with Pucci led to a fresh new universe for the franchise. In the late 1890s, Johnny and Diego embark on an epic horse race across North America. The winner of this race will be granted their heart’s desire. With Stand battles unfolding swiftly on horseback, it promises to be exhilarating if the adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure continues and we get to witness these thrilling moments animated.
The Steel Ball Run Arrives in 2025
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run made its debut in 2004 under the pen of creator Hirohiko Araki, and ran for over seven years until it concluded in 2011. This tale is often praised as one of Araki’s finest works, combining thrilling Stand battles with a transcontinental race that takes the action from coast to coast across North America. Following Steel Ball Run, the Joestar saga would carry on in the manga through two subsequent storylines, JoJolion and The JOJOLands. As of now, we don’t have an exact release date, but fans can look forward to the next installment arriving in summer of the following year.
In the upcoming summer of 2025, the latest installment of “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” titled “Part 7-Steel Ball Run,” penned by Hirohiko Araki, will be unveiled. This captivating story follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey who, prior to the renowned Steel Ball Run race, witnesses an enigmatic power possessed by Gyro Zeppeli, setting off his journey to restore his mobility.

Netflix’s JoJo Movement
A large number of anime enthusiasts were taken aback when the streaming platform declared that it would be the sole provider for “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean“. Although David Production continued to deliver outstanding animation for the adaptation, many Joestar followers felt distraught due to the anime’s unusual release pattern. Traditionally, “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” would air new episodes weekly, but Netflix opted for a different strategy by releasing clusters of episodes spaced months apart. This effectively ended “JoJo Fridays”, leaving many fans disappointed by the change.
Fortunately, the streaming platform has taken a unique approach towards anime following the release of “Stone Ocean“. Instead of all episodes being dropped at once, Netflix releases anime adaptations like “One Piece, Dandadan“, and numerous other series on a weekly basis. If “Steel Ball Run” joins the platform, fans are eagerly anticipating the potential return of “JoJo Fridays”.
JoJo’s Current Adventure
Previously stated, it’s been quite some time since Johnny and Diego embarked on their trail adventure, but the world of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has persisted. While The JOJOLands doesn’t involve a cross-country road race, it certainly hasn’t lacked in unexpected twists. The current storyline by Hirohiko Araki revolves around two Joestar siblings, Jodio and Dragona, who primarily focus on earning money to support their mother. Characters like Kishibe Rohan make a comeback in this arc, and Araki is eager to intersperse shocking moments amid significant Stand battles. Previously, Araki expressed his desire to work on this manga endlessly, and The JOJOLands demonstrates this aspiration perfectly.
