Joker 2: Todd Phillips Says Movie Is Not a Musical

Joker 2: Todd Phillips Says Movie Is Not a Musical

As a die-hard fan who’s been following the Joker saga since its inception, I must say that Todd Phillips‘ recent comments about Joker: Folie A Deux have left me both intrigued and puzzled. The idea of a musical Joker film is an exciting prospect, but if it’s not going to be like In The Heights with spontaneous street dances and police force break-outs into song, then what can we expect?

Todd Phillips clarifies that despite appearances, the upcoming Joker sequel is not a musical. While it may seem like it meets many of the criteria, Phillips explains that much of the “musical” aspect occurs within the mind of Arthur Fleck and then manifests in the world around him. This could account for the lack of characters breaking into song during most of the scenes we’ve seen so far. However, some viewers online are met with a touch of sarcasm as they point out similarities to other movies that follow this style, including In The Heights fans who are eagerly anticipating this unique approach. Read more about Phillips’ thoughts in his interview with Variety.

Phillips expressed that he doesn’t want people to assume it will be similar to “In The Heights” where a woman in the store starts singing and everyone moves to the street with cops dancing. However, he emphasizes that he admires “In The Heights“.

Gaga pondered, “What circumstances could lead two individuals to unexpectedly burst into song during a chat?” She inquired, “Where does this music originate when only the characters can hear it? Neither Arthur nor Lee are trained vocalists; their singing abilities seem unnatural.”

Will There Be A Joker 3?

As a devoted gamer, I can’t help but feel a pang of anticipation when it comes to the talk about “Joker: Folie A Deux”. Some fellow enthusiasts might be wondering if we’re in for a third chapter in this gripping saga. However, during a recent interview, Todd Phillips dropped a bittersweet truth bomb for those yearning for “Joker 3”. He stated, “Playing around in this sandbox was an exhilarating experience for two movies, but I believe we’ve conveyed what we intended to express within this universe.” Seems pretty conclusive. Yet, in the ever-evolving world of media, nothing is truly gone forever. Nevertheless, after crafting two compelling narratives, the director seems ready to draw the curtain on Arthur Fleck and his fresh romance. After all, there’s still that comedic venture with Joaquin Phoenix waiting in the wings.

Phillips shares that he enjoys continuing his work with Joaquin and finds him hilarious. He suggests doing so in a comedy setting because of Joaquin’s comedic talent. Phillips also believes that people are yearning for comedies at the moment. In essence, while the tagline for ‘Joker 2‘ expresses the need for love in the world, he thinks we could also use a good chuckle.
