Josh Duggar is continuing to fight his conviction.
Three years following the imprisonment of Josh Duggar, eldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar (who have 19 children), for charges involving child pornography, he’s filed a fresh plea in his ongoing bid to reverse his conviction.
Josh Duggar, father of seven with wife Anna Duggar, penned a letter to the judge on May 27, asking for a lawyer provided by the court. This request was confirmed through legal documents acquired by People magazine. Being 37 years old and facing charges, he initially declared his innocence during the 2021 trial. In his letter, he stated that his current financial situation does not allow him to afford legal representation.
In other parts of the paperwork, Duggar mentioned he’s obtaining legal advice to assess potential “constitutional breaches” during his 2021 trial. It’s important to note that Duggar, who was taken into custody in 2021 for accusations of downloading content depicting minor sexual abuse, claims in these documents that the extensive media coverage of his case might have compromised his entitlement to a “thorough and impartial post-trial review.
Over time, fresh legal concepts and tactics have arisen in public discussions that could potentially apply to the Defendant’s situation. Given this evolution, the Defendant is aiming to discuss these new ideas with their attorney to thoroughly assess if they can be utilized to file a motion for leniency or relief.
Following two earlier attempts at appeal, Duggar’s most recent petition was turned down by the Supreme Court in June 2024. Currently, his prison term concludes in October 2032.
Before his 2021 arrest, accusations surfaced in 2015 that Duggar had molested several underage girls, including his sisters Jessa Duggar Seewald and Jill Duggar Dillard, who identified themselves as victims at the time. These allegations resulted in the cancellation of the family’s TLC reality series.
About a dozen years ago, when I was still a young teenager, I behaved in an unforgivable manner that I now deeply regret and feel truly sorry for. I caused harm to others, including my family and close friends. At the time, I admitted my mistakes to my parents who took numerous measures to help me deal with the situation. We reported the matter to the authorities, where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents organized counseling for me as well as those affected by my actions.
After the 2021 arrest of Duggar, Jessa Duggar and her husband Ben Seewald expressed their sadness upon learning about the federal charges against him.
In their statement, posted on their Instagrams, the couple expressed their firm stance against pornography, abuse, and any form of wrongdoing, advocating for truth to come to light. They also extended their sympathies to the affected family, wishing them strength as they navigate through this challenging period.

Originally a pair of high school sweethearts, these two eventually became the parents of 19 children and grandparents to more than three dozen youngsters.
Michelle mentioned experiencing a significant event at the age of 15, which she described as being “rescued.” One evening, Jim Bob was conducting house visits for his Baptist church when he was informed by a friend that a girl from school who had recently undergone a spiritual transformation and was a cheerleader lived in the Ruark family’s home.
They extended an invitation to Michelle to attend Sunday school at their church, and Jim Bob mentioned that he hoped God would make them each other’s spiritual guides – a role that didn’t seem particularly impactful for Michelle at first. A year later, Michelle applied for a position at the frozen yogurt shop owned by Jim Bob’s parents. In a blog post from 2017, marking both Jim Bob’s birthday and their 33rd wedding anniversary, Michelle recalled her first encounter with Jim Bob: “You stood behind the counter near the cash register when I introduced myself,” she wrote. “You were timid but very kind! To be honest, I can’t recall many details about that chat, except that you eventually gathered enough courage to ask me if I would accompany you to your junior-senior banquet!
At Shiloh Christian, they both went to a dinner together, but it wasn’t until later, when they spent hours discussing the Bible at her family’s home, that she felt their bond deepen. As Michelle put it, “That’s where our hearts became one.” They completed high school in May 1984 and got married just a few months later, with Michelle being only 17 years old and Jim Bob 19.
The couple dedicated themselves to God and each other for the long run.
Jim Bob previously held the position of state legislator, representing Arkansas’s sixth district in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002. During his tenure, he served as vice chairman of the House Corrections and Criminal Law Subcommittee. His attempt at a U.S. Senate seat in 2002 failed during the primary, and his effort in 2006 to secure the Republican nomination for Arkansas State Senate District 35 also fell short.
They, along with Michelle, who are both real estate agents with licenses, have been actively involved in conservative movements – a part of their lifestyle that earned them the support and criticism, respectively, from 19 Kids and Counting (initially titled 17 Kids and Counting when it debuted in 2008).
As of October 2024, they were grandparents of 33 with three on the way.
The eldest child in the Duggars, Josh Duggar, was born on March 3, 1988. Similarly, he took up a conservative advocacy role and actively campaigned for the Family Research Council.
In 2015, he resigned following the disclosure of police records dating back to when he was a teenager, which implicated him in accusations of molestation towards multiple girls, including his sisters Jessa Duggar and Jill Duggar. Later that year, Jessa publicly defended her brother during an interview with Fox News, stating that the harsh labels being applied to Josh were “exaggerated and false,” since she herself was one of the victims.
His wife, Anna Duggar, who tied the knot with him during their wedding held on September 26, 2008, and was showcased on “19 Kids and Counting,” remained loyal to him even after he confessed to infidelity.
Back in 2016, when I checked myself into a treatment center, my folks saw it as a pivotal initial move towards recovery and healing.
The parents of Mackynzie (born October 8, 2009), Michael (June 15, 2011), Marcus (June 2, 2013), and subsequently Anna during a scandal, welcomed Meredith on July 16, 2015. Coincidentally, that was the same day TLC decided to end their show, “19 Kids.” Their fifth child, Mason Garett, arrived on September 12, 2017, followed by Maryella Hope on November 27, 2019, and Madyson Lily, their seventh baby, was born on October 23, 2021.
Back in April 2021, Josh faced two separate charges related to child pornography – receiving and possessing it – as outlined in a federal indictment. He denied any wrongdoing for both counts. In the year 2022, he was found guilty on both counts, although the possession charge was later dismissed by the judge. As a result, Josh received a sentence of 12 and a half years behind bars.
Not long after Josh’s birth, Michelle conceived another child but tragically experienced a miscarriage. As they mourned this loss and sought divine direction, they discovered that twins were expected.
She expressed that it was a twofold gift, she told Love to Know. God was providing comfort for their hearts in this unique circumstance. They continue to learn and grow, finding it extraordinary because despite breastfeeding her babies, they had a new child so soon after the last. It’s another unexpected twist the Lord has added to their story.
John David Duggar and his twin sister Jana Duggar were born on Jan. 12, 1990.
Following a long period of mutual acquaintance (they had known each other for several years), a chance encounter at a church event in Oklahoma – Abbie’s home state – led to their swift courtship. After a brief engagement, John David and Abbie-Grace Burnett tied the knot on November 3, 2018.
On January 7, 2020, they warmly received their newborn daughter, Grace Annette Duggar, and in September 2022, they joyfully welcomed their son, Charlie Duggar.
Turning 30 in January 2020, Jana penned a heartfelt note to John: “From when we were kids, people have asked if we share some sort of ‘twin connection’, feeling or knowing each other’s thoughts… For a long time, I denied it, but the moment little Gracie was born, I felt the same joy you did. So, maybe there is something to this twin thing after all!
Jana went on to say, “It’s delightful seeing you and Abbie in your parental roles! You both seem so natural at it! The very traits that make you an exceptional brother will undoubtedly make you a fantastic father.
Jana observed as 11 out of her 18 siblings tied the knot before she met Stephen Wissmann, whose sister, Hannah Wissmann, is now married to Jeremiah’s brother – but even with some acknowledged setbacks, she remained convinced that it was all part of a divine plan.
In August 2024, just prior to her wedding, Jana expressed to People that she hasn’t always grasped the overall scheme of things, but she trusts that God knows what is most beneficial for everyone. Consequently, she chose to wait longer before getting married. She elaborated, “If each of our lives were identical, it would make for a monotonous existence.
Jill Duggar, later known as Jill Dillard, was born on the 17th of May, 1991. In a tale reminiscent of her parents’, Jill encountered Derick (who lived approximately 45 minutes away) for the first time on Christmas 2011. This meeting took place when Derick dropped by the Duggar family home while out caroling with his church group.
Jim Bob acted as a cupid, and Jill and Derick found themselves drawn to each other through emails and video calls. Later in November, they decided to meet in person in Nepal where their bond deepened further. The pair continued to grow fond of one another, leading up to the proposal in February 2014. Derick asked Jim Bob for his daughter’s hand in marriage, and they got married on June 21, 2014. They are proud parents to three boys—Israel (born April 6, 2015), Samuel (born July 8, 2017), and Frederick (born July 7, 2022).
In the month of April 2024, Jill revealed that they had experienced a miscarriage when expecting their first daughter with Derick.
In the Amazon Prime Video documentary titled “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets“, which debuted in June 2023, Jill and Derick pondered over the debates and religious viewpoints associated with Jill’s family, as depicted in the series.
Jim Bob and Michelle’s fifth child, Jessa Duggar, was born Nov. 4, 1992.
Back in 2013, I, an ardent admirer of their love story, found myself captivated as Jessa crossed paths with Ben through our beloved church. Their courtship, reminiscent of times past, took me by surprise, stirring excitement among many viewers who were equally smitten. You see, this wasn’t your typical dating scene; it was an old-timey approach to romance that seemed almost alien.
In the days prior to their engagement, these two lovebirds kept their romantic endeavors under wraps. It wasn’t until Jim Bob shared with People that I finally understood the nature of their relationship. He explained, “Courting is about getting to know each other in a group setting, spending time together as families and setting goals to determine if they are meant for marriage. Dating, on the other hand, often involves couples pairing off alone, which can sometimes lead to a more physical relationship.” Ah, the charm of courtship!
In August 2014, Ben asked for Jessa’s hand in marriage and proposed, officially making it official by holding her hand for the first time. They tied the knot on November 1, 2014. When Jessa was expecting their first child, the show 19 Kids and Counting was discontinued. Instead, TLC aired a special about sexual abuse, with Jill and Jessa as the main focus, to enlighten viewers on the topic. The sisters later became the stars of their own show, Jill and Jessa: Counting On, that winter. This series eventually morphed into Counting On, which included other Duggar siblings as well.
Jessa and Ben had four children: Spurgeon (born Nov. 5, 2015), Henry (Feb. 6, 2017), Ivy Jane (May 28, 2019), and Fern (July 2021). Tragically, Jessa had a miscarriage during the 2022 holiday season. However, she gave birth to son George in December 2023.
On May 7, 2025, Jessa announced baby No. 6 is on the way.
The sixth Duggar child, Jinger Vuolo, was born Dec. 21, 1993.
Jinger and Jeremy first met during ministry duties in Laredo, Texas, and began dating in 2016. They tied the knot on November 5th, 2016 (a special day as it was also her nephew Spurgeon’s birthday), and almost immediately sparked pregnancy rumors since they were part of a large family with 19 members.
In a year’s time, we anticipate remaining right here in Laredo, continuing our ministry, while also striving to serve the Lord as best we can. This is the path we envision for ourselves, as Jinger shared on a June 2017 episode of Counting On.
On July 19, 2018, their beloved daughter Felicity entered the world. It was in May of that same year when they shared the news that Jinger was expecting again, and tragically had experienced a miscarriage the previous autumn. Then, in November 2020, Evangeline Jo joined their family.
Son Finnegan Charles was born March 29, 2025.
Born on January 20th, 1995 is Joseph Duggar. He made use of the picturesque occasion, which was his sister Joy-Anna’s wedding in May 2017, to pop the question to Kendra, a woman he had only recently met at church, after just a few months of dating.
As I stepped forward with the ring in hand, a wave of apprehension washed over me. But I wasn’t anxious about her refusing my proposal; instead, I was confident because she had expressed, “I’m just waiting on you!” Before, Joseph shared with People magazine. Kendra herself echoed, “I’m overwhelmed with joy and awe. So many words are bubbling up, but all I can say is shocked.
Since then, they have revealed the births of their son Garrett (born in June 2018), their daughter Addison (born in November 2019), and their other daughter Brooklyn (born in February 2021).
Eighth in line, Josiah Duggar was born on Aug. 28, 1996.
In March 2018, just a few months after their relationship became public knowledge, the couple announced their engagement. He shared that the location where he proposed to Lauren was the very same spot where her parents got engaged. This site holds significant family history and is particularly meaningful to Lauren due to its rich past on this property.
In a video shared on their family blog, Michelle, who will be Lauren’s mother-in-law in the future, expressed her affection for Lauren by saying, “Lauren is such a treasure.” Jessa and Ben also extended congratulations along with chocolate shaped like X’s and O’s. Winking suggestively, she hinted at a sweet reward if they visited her, holding up the potential treat as a consolation prize.
In the summer of 2015, a relationship with Marjorie Jackson ended amicably and they chose different paths. As Josiah shared with People in March 2016, they had enjoyed their time together. They were simply trying to discern God’s guidance for everything, but Marjorie felt it wasn’t the right moment then, so they took a break for a while.
On June 30, 2018, they officially got married, sharing with People that their wedding day was “just perfect.” Their first child, Bella Milagro, was born on November 8, 2019, a name meaning “miracle baby,” as the couple had previously experienced a miscarriage in October 2018. They were blessed with another daughter, Daisy, in 2022, and welcomed their son, Ezra, in May 2023.
Ninth sibling Joy-Anna Duggar was born Oct. 28, 1997.
For a whopping fifteen years, I had the privilege of calling Austin Forsyth my friend, sharing laughter, tears, and everyday moments with him. But when he began to pursue me, it was like a dream come true. We didn’t let any moment pass without expressing our feelings for each other. In the chilly month of February 2017, he took my breath away by proposing, and on May 26, 2017, we exchanged vows at Cross Church in Rogers, Arkansas – the very same venue where Joseph asked Kendra to be his wife! It was truly an unforgettable day for us both.
Joy-Anna and Austin had a baby boy named Gideon Martin Forsyth on February 23, 2018, a daughter called Evelyn Mae Forsyth on August 21, 2020, and another son named Gunner James Forsyth on May 17, 2023.
Or, more informally:
Joy-Anna and Austin welcomed their son Gideon Martin, daughter Evelyn Mae, and son Gunner James into the world on Feb. 23, 2018, Aug. 21, 2020, and May 17, 2023, respectively.
On December 30, 1998, Jim Bob and Michelle welcomed their twin sons, Jed Duggar and Jeremiah Duggar, into the world.
In the spring of 2021, Jed tied the knot with Katey Nakatsu, following a year-long courtship. They now have a son named Truett, who was born in May 2022, and a daughter, Nora Kate, who joined their family in June 2023.
In July of 2024, Jed and Katey made an announcement that they were expecting twin girls. These beautiful daughters, named Elsie Kate and Emma Kate, arrived on January 8th, 2025.
Jeremiah, who holds a certification as a flight instructor, is married to Hannah Wissmann (the sister of Jana’s husband Stephen). Together, they have two children: Brynley, born in December 2022, and Brielle, who came into the world in February 2024.
They announced the arrival of their third daughter, Emery ‘Emy’ Jane Duggar, on May 18, 2025.
No. 12 Jason Duggar was born on April 21, 2000.
Back in January 2017, according to the Daily Mail, Jim Bob aided Jase in purchasing a $33,000 property in need of repair in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, approximately 30 minutes from the Duggar family’s main residence. Subsequently, he established his own construction company.
In May 2024, he made their relationship public on Instagram with Maddie Grace, and they got married the next October.
Charmed No. 13, James Duggar was born July 7, 2001.
He doesn’t have a public romantic relationship with anyone who might be his future partner, but he adores his numerous nieces and nephews deeply.
On his 19th birthday in 2019, mom Michelle posted that “James is the cool uncle everyone admires, and all the younger lads aspire to be like him.” James has always been capable of tackling almost any task he conceives. As a child, we often found James tinkering with various household items. He’s always been one to disassemble things, understand their mechanisms, reassemble them, and sometimes make unique improvements!
This year, James dedicated himself to earning his Commercial Driver’s License, and now he’s mastered handling large trucks and heavy equipment with ease! We’re eagerly looking forward to witnessing the wonderful things that await him in the time to come!
No. 14 Justin Duggar arrived on Nov. 15, 2002.
In September 2020, he made their relationship known to the public with Claire Spivey. They became engaged a month later in November, and they tied the knot on February 26, 2021.
Born on May 23, 2004, Jackson Duggar, the 15th child of Jim Bob and Michelle, arrived with his big sister Jill by his side.
On his sixteenth birthday, Jackson’s mother, Michelle, commended his wit and mentioned that she was well aware of his impatience to obtain a driver’s license.
Johanah Duggar came into the world on October 11, 2005, which is why the first family reality show focusing on their lives was titled “16 Kids and Growing Up Together.
On her 15-year-old daughter’s birthday in 2020, Michelle remarked that she is full of life, sociable, and enjoys meeting new people. Her younger siblings idolize her and believe she’s as wonderful as the moon itself. And I couldn’t be more thankful to God for making me her mother!
Jennifer Duggar arrived on Aug. 2, 2007, then the baby of the family.
Their TLC show that premiered Sept. 29, 2008, was christened 17 Kids and Counting.
Now, OMG, she’s a teenager.
As I pen this, I can confidently say that I embody reliability, loyalty, and a dash of playfulness. Just like last weekend when my niece turned 13, I’ve been the go-to auntie who is always ready to carry around one (or more) of them because they simply don’t want me to put them down!
Beyond family, I have a soft spot for our furry friends. Every day, I faithfully tend to my beloved pets. Recently, I was blessed with the responsibility of caring for a litter of 7 little bunnies, and it has been an incredible journey.
Here on the right, the penultimate Duggar child was born Dec. 18, 2008.
In 2019, Jordyn-Grace was described by her mother as an outgoing girl who easily makes friends wherever she goes, and her laughter, which often brings joy to those around her, was referred to as one of the most uplifting moments of their daily lives.
19th on our list is Josie Duggar, seen here with her niece Meredith. Born on December 10, 2009, she arrived three months early, tipping the scales at just 1 pound and 6 ounces. Due to her prematurity, she spent a significant six months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
On her baby’s 11th birthday in 2020, Michelle noted that Josie is a whirlwind of activity. She hardly ever takes a break, from the moment she gets up in the morning to when she goes to sleep at night.
