JSA Power Couple BREAKS UP?! You Won’t Believe Why!

Lately, the Justice Society of America (JSA) has been facing numerous challenges following their return. The older members – Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, Wildcat, Jakeem Thunder, and Doctor Fate (the contemporary replacements for Johnny Thunder and Doctor Fate respectively) – are currently stuck in a nightmarish dimension where they’re fighting against Surtur and his fire demons. This unfortunate turn of events resulted in the loss of Wildcat. Simultaneously, the younger members – Sands, Jade, Hourman II, Jesse Quick, Obsidian, Wildcat II, and Doctor Mid-Nite II – are grappling with a traitor within their own ranks, a plot orchestrated by the Injustice Society. In addition to these trials, the JSA has had further complications due to the strained marriage between fan-favorite couple Hourman II and Jesse Quick. In issue #7 of the JSA series, both factions of the team reunite following Wildcat’s funeral. However, their struggles don’t end there as they continue to confront various obstacles.

Heroes Hourman II and Jesse Quick have faced numerous challenges throughout their lives due to being the offspring of Golden Age heroes. Occasionally, they struggled to meet the high standards set by their parents, while other times, they found themselves grappling with the negative aspects of their parental legacies. Their marriage turned out to be a significant aspect of both their personal lives and the Justice Society, which makes the dissolution of that marriage all the more poignant when examined closely.

Hourman II and Jessie Quick Grew as Characters With Their Marriage

Hourman II is the son of the original Hourman (Hourman I), who was a member of the Justice Society and had superpowers thanks to a drug called Miraclo. His daughter, Jesse Quick, comes from Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle. The original Hourman struggled with addiction to his powers due to Miraclo’s early form, but eventually managed to modify it so he could use it multiple times per day without becoming addicted again. Johnny Quick possesses super-speed by using a special equation that connects him to the Speed Force. Liberty Belle has great strength, durability, and sonic abilities. Unfortunately, their hero work strained their marriage, causing them to raise Jesse separately in the end.

In this retelling, Hourman II assumed his father’s role within Infinity Inc., unintentionally inheriting his father’s addiction struggles. After battling substance abuse and stepping away from hero work temporarily, he eventually rejoined the Justice Society. On the other hand, Jesse Quick found camaraderie with the Flash Family and Titans, evolving into a savvy entrepreneur balancing two careers. When she lost her powers, she returned to the JSA as a business consultant. Over time, she developed feelings for Hourman II, eventually gaining the abilities of her mother, becoming Liberty Belle II. They married and became integral members of the team, aiding Damage in coping with his disfigurement. However, when they appeared to be experiencing marital troubles in the Justice Society’s latest series (as depicted in JSA #7), readers were taken aback. The mounting stresses on both their superhero lives and the team strained their relationship to the breaking point, ultimately leading to Jesse requesting a separation. Hourman II reacted poorly to the situation, prompting her to remark that she had been alone for quite some time.

The JSA’s Most Important Marriage Is Breaking Down in Front of Our Eyes

The adoration for Hourman II and Jesse Quick as a pair was widespread. They were both superheroes who encountered their fair share of challenges during their heroic journey, but their union improved their lives significantly. Overcoming past difficulties, they emerged as the star couple within the Justice Society. However, one issue they’ve faced is that their lives outside of being each other’s partner on the team have been limited. Jesse has struggled with the legacy left by her parents and the Justice Society, while Hourman II has always had to maintain a disciplined life while dealing with the expectations cast upon him due to his role as a descendant of a founding member of the Justice Society.

The duo is experiencing immense pressure, with the ongoing issues in the Justice Society only adding to their troubles. The shattering impact of the Injustice Society has left the team disorganized. The demise of Wildcat was a heavy loss, but it’s not just that – the Injustice Society continues to exhaust the JSA. Doctor Mid-Nite II has gone missing, Wildcat II has committed a fatal act, Jade and Sands are at a loss for action, and Johnny Sorrow has secretly influenced the team, seizing control of Obsidian. Hourman II and Jesse Quick are under unprecedented stress, and their marriage may not survive this ordeal.
