Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals Their “Huge Mistake” With Megumi’s Sister

Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals Their "Huge Mistake" With Megumi's Sister

As a dedicated fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can’t help but feel disappointed by Gege Akutami’s recent revelation that his portrayal of Megumi Fushiguro’s sister, Tsumiki, was a “huge mistake.” Having followed the manga since its inception, I’ve always felt that there was something missing from Tsumiki’s character development. Her brief appearances in the story have left me craving for more insight into her background and motivations.

As a devoted fan of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” I’ve been deeply moved by Megumi Fushiguro’s descending spiral into depression in the latest manga chapters. It turns out that the mastermind behind this captivating story harbors deep regret concerning his own sister, Tsumiki. The momentum of “Jujutsu Kaisen” has been picking up at an incredible pace as we gear up for the Shinjuku Showdown arc and prepare to face off against Sukuna once more. However, with such a vast array of characters and intricate storylines unfolding, it’s becoming increasingly challenging for the creator to give each new addition the development they deserve. When it comes to a character like Megumi who is expected to carry greater significance, this challenge becomes even more pronounced.

Megumi, initially intended to be the main character in “Jujutsu Kaisen” according to its creator Gege Akutami, has seen his family members unveiled throughout the manga. One of them is his sister Tsumiki, whom Megumi was attempting to rescue during the Culling Game storyline. However, Akutami admitted at the “Jujutsu Kaisen” art exhibition in Japan that it was a regretful oversight not to develop Tsumiki’s backstory further and make her a more fully-realized character.

Akutami admitted that he didn’t provide enough details about Tsumiki’s past, making it difficult for readers to connect with her character. In hindsight, he regretted not having a significant interaction between Itadori and Tsumiki, allowing the audience to better understand Tsumiki’s background and perspective. By neglecting this encounter, Akutami denied readers the opportunity to share in their thoughts on Tsumiki’s development. A valuable lesson learned!

From my gaming perspective, I’ve noticed that throughout the series, not much has been revealed about Tsumiki’s background, aside from a quick glimpse into her past during a flashback. The first half of the manga found her in a coma, and then she underwent a significant transformation as a result of the Culling Game. Essentially, I feel like she got lost in the shuffle of all the events unfolding within the story. Even the author, Akutami, acknowledged that he didn’t get to explore more about Tsumiki’s character when he had the opportunity to do so.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Jujutsu Kaisen” hasn’t reached its end yet! New chapters of this captivating manga are continuously being released. You can easily access these fresh instalments by subscribing to Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library or Shueisha’s MangaPlus service. Enjoy the ongoing adventure!
