Jujutsu Kaisen Director to Launch Next Original Anime With Disney+

As a seasoned gamer with an affinity for anime and action-packed storylines, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and excitement upon hearing about Disney+’s new original anime, Bullet/Bullet, from the mind behind Jujutsu Kaisen, Sung Hoo Park. With a decade in the making, it’s safe to say that this project has been a labor of love for the creator. The teaser has certainly piqued my curiosity with its Mad Max-inspired city car chases and Akira-esque vibes, not to mention the nod to Steve McQueen’s classic, Bullitt.

Disney Plus recently revealed the initial trailer for an upcoming original anime titled “Bullet/Bullet“, created by director Sung Hoo Park, who gained fame with his popular anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen“. Unlike “Jujutsu Kaisen“, “Bullet/Bullet” is not adapted from any pre-existing manga. The footage was presented at Disney’s 2024 APAC Content Showcase in Singapore. Notably, “Bullet/Bullet” is set to premiere on Disney+ in Summer 2025.

Sung Hoo Park has reportedly spent a decade writing the story for Bullet/Bullet. However, plot details still remain a secret. The footage has teased some of what fans can expect from the new show. The teaser showcases a young boy drifting around the streets of a rocky city in a modified muscle car. The footage also jumps between a car race in the desert, and a woman with an arm-mounted rocket launcher. The trailer also promises “high octane, action entertainment.” As well as the first teaser, Disney has also released the first official poster for the series. Check it out below:

The fast-paced city chases in “Bullet/Bullet” strongly resemble George Miller’s “Mad Max” series, and it even evokes the atmosphere of “Akira.” Additionally, the enigmatic main character’s preferred vehicle echoes the iconic 1968 film, “Bullitt,” starring Steve McQueen, where he drove a Ford Mustang.

In this production, Sung Hoo Park is taking the helm as the director for the series. E&H Production, owned by Park himself, and GAGA are jointly producing the project. Notably, Takahiro Yohimatsu, known for his work on “Hunter x Hunter” and “Overlord”, will be the chief animation director and character designer. Hidetaka Tenjin from “Space Battleship Yamato” is responsible for the show’s concept and mechanical design, while Shin Masiwa, renowned for his work on “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood”, will direct the various car action scenes.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Is Still a Mystery

As a die-hard Jujutsu Kaisen fan, I’m counting on Bullet/Bullet to keep us hooked until the long-awaited third season finally drops. The second season, which covered the “Hidden Inventory,” “Premature Death,” and “Shibuya Incident” storylines, ended back in December 2023, leaving us in suspense about what’s next. So far, there’s been no word on the third season, but I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Based on current information, it appears that Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen is being planned. MAPPA studios will be responsible for its production. However, no specific release date has been provided yet. Initially, fans anticipated a 2025 premiere, but with no recent updates, the third season might not air until 2026. This delay could be due to MAPPA’s busy schedule as they are also working on new seasons of Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga, Hell’s Paradise, and Shinichirō Watanabe’s upcoming Lazarus project.

The delays might stem from alleged mistreatment of MAPPA’s animation staff, as reported earlier this year. Animators and producers exposed the studio for poor working conditions, such as tight deadlines, frequent late-night shifts, and other issues. Recently, there have been reports of a management overhaul at MAPPA. Although the report did not address improvements in working conditions, it is speculated that the overhaul was prompted by the disturbing claims made by past and present employees.
