In 2023, the second installment of Jujutsu Kaisen hit the screens and quickly gained worldwide popularity. The anime surpassed its predecessor in success, earning accolades from both fans and critics. Shortly after wrapping up Season 2 in December 2023, MAPPA announced a third season. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is set to delve into the Culling Game, another intense and thrilling storyline. Yet, over a year since its announcement, there’s been limited information from MAPPA. The Jump Festa 2025 event revealed a visual featuring Yuji, yet no release window or sneak peek at the anime was disclosed.
At the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Shota Goshozono, who won the Best Director award, is set to return as the director for Season 3. He stepped in following Sunghoo Park’s departure from MAPPA in 2021 and founding E&H Production. At the AnimeJapan 2025 event, Jujutsu Kaisen hinted at news about its upcoming projects, but no specific details were shared about Season 3’s release date, suggesting a potential debut in 2026. Instead, they concentrated on publicizing the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc compilation film, which will be shown in Japanese theaters starting May 30th.
What Should You Expect From Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?
In the upcoming Season 3 of JJK, we’ll first delve into Itadori’s Extermination Arc and then proceed to the Perfect Preparation Arc before diving into the Culling Game Arc. Although these arcs are brief, they serve to underscore the repercussions of the Shibuya Incident Arc and establish the foundation for the Culling Game. As in Season 2, Yuji is once again under threat, this time with the elders commanding Yuta Okkotsu to carry out his execution. The season concludes with a dramatic twist as the youngest special-grade sorcerer displays hostility towards Yuji.
1) In the prequel film, Yuta serves as the main character and is one of Gojo’s most loyal pupils. His actions might appear bloodthirsty, but he has his own objectives in mind. The “Perfect Preparation Arc” primarily revolves around Maki and her conflicts with the Zenin Clan. The “Culling Game,” a battle royale instigated by Kenjaku for amusement and chaos, is the longest story arc in the manga. If Season 3 intends to conclude these three arcs within approximately 24-26 episodes, they will need to condense a significant amount of content compared to the first two seasons.
So it’s more or less clear now that JJK Season-3 will be releasing in 2026

Fans Expect Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 to Release in 2026
The idea that Season 3 might follow the same three-year pattern as Seasons 1 and 2 comes from the fact that Season 1 premiered in 2020 and Season 2 in 2023. If MAPPA continues with this timeline for Season 3, we could see it by 2026. Although there were no updates about JJK Season 3 at AnimeJapan 2023, the franchise has other opportunities to reveal news this year. Events like Aniplex Online Fest in September and Jump Festa in December are prime possibilities for teaser trailers and release date announcements. Until then, fans can rewatch Seasons 1 and 2, as well as the prequel movie, on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
