Jujutsu Kaisen Finally Explains Yuta's Delayed Debut in the Manga

As a huge fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can’t help but be in awe of Gege Akutami’s creative process and the intricacies behind bringing Yuta Okkotsu into the series. The recent interview he gave about his decision to delay Yuta’s introduction until later in the manga was truly enlightening.

The creator of “Jujutsu Kaisen” has shared insights on why Yuta Okkotsu’s entrance into the manga was postponed, despite being the initial lead character. With the release of the hit movie adaptation, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” focusing on Yuta’s backstory, his popularity among fans has grown significantly. Eagerly anticipating more from him, fans are now witnessing his pivotal involvement in the climactic battles against Sukuna and potential threats before the conclusion.

I’m thrilled that Yuta has made a grand comeback into both the “Jujutsu Kaisen” manga and anime following the conclusion of the Shibuya Incident arc. Despite being one of the initial characters in the Jujutsu world, his presence is now more significant than ever. In an exclusive interview for the recent art exhibition of the series in Japan, Gege Akutami, the creator of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” revealed that Yuta’s late entrance was editor’s suggestion to keep things simpler at the start.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Yuta Shows Up Late

In his initial plan for “Jujutsu Kaisen,” Akutami intended for Gojo to assume the teacher and guide role, allowing Itadori to encounter Jujutsu Tech members early on. Gojo proved essential as the story’s mentor. However, Yuta’s presence would initially add complexity. During the drafting stage of an earlier version named “Sousen,” Akutama’s editor, Katayama, suggested simplifying matters by excluding Okkotsu from the early storyline.

Akutami didn’t add Yuta as a character initially, but later on, he turned the previously published four-chapter story in Jump GIGA into the captivating prequel of “Jujutsu Kaisen” called “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”. Introducing Gojo was not an option due to his significance to the plot, making it impossible to imagine “Jujutsu Kaisen” without him. In simpler terms, introducing Yuta at the beginning would have added unnecessary complexity to the storyline.
