As someone who has closely followed the captivating world of Jujutsu Kaisen since its inception, I must say that the anticipation for the upcoming seasons is palpable. The Shibuya Incident Arc was a rollercoaster ride, and the cliffhanger at the end left us all on the edge of our seats.
Although the manga adaptation of “Jujutsu Kaisen” ended in September, its anime counterpart still has plenty of uncharted territory ahead. The announcement for a third season came swiftly following the conclusion of the Shibuya Incident Arc in the manga. Season 2 has been an emotional ride, with Gojo’s backstory and the most intense arc thus far leaving fans on edge. The Shibuya Incident Arc saw a series of heartbreaking events unfold once Kenjaku successfully imprisoned Gojo within the Prison Realm.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo stands as the sole warrior equipped to confront Kenjaku and the catastrophic curses. As soon as he’s not around, other sorcerers leap into battle. The narrative takes a turn for the grim with the Shibuya Incident Arc, hinting that Yuji and his companions are bracing themselves for even tougher trials ahead. Exciting updates about the next season of the series will be unveiled at Jump Festa 2025, but fans hoping to see Gojo in action during Season 3 might find themselves a bit let down.
Satoru Gojo Will Not Be a Part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3
One major objective for Kenjaku during the Shibuya Incident was to contain Gojo prior to the fighting starting. He manages this through careful strategy, but extracting Gojo from the cursed object will prove tricky. Yuji and their team rush to aid Gojo, only to become embroiled in the conflict themselves. Regrettably, by the end of the incident, Kenjaku vanishes along with the Prison Realm.
The second series concludes with Yuta’s emergence, vowing to slay Yuji. Yuta is the central character from the prequel film “Jujutsu Kaisen” 0, which came out in 2021, a few months after the first season wrapped up. He enters the main narrative following the conclusion of the tumultuous battle. Prior to delving into the Culling Game, “Jujutsu Kaisen” Season 3 will adapt two story arcs: Itadori Extermination and Perfect Preparation.
In Chapter 136, the Shibuya Incident Arc concludes, but the anime carries on to adapt Chapter 137, marking the start of the Itadori Extermination Arc. This arc, with its 63 chapters, is the longest in the series. For Season 3, it seems that Gojo will remain trapped throughout its entirety. However, audiences can look forward to seeing him in both the opening and closing themes, as well as a short canonical flashback. At most, spectators may anticipate a hint of him around the season finale.
What Should Fans Expect From Season 3?
In the upcoming third season, events unfold following the Shibuya Incident’s aftermath. Yuji is grappling emotionally due to his indirect involvement in numerous deaths in Shibuya. The Itadori Extermination Arc will unveil Yuta’s ingenious strategy aimed at rescuing Yuji Itadori. Furthermore, the Perfect Preparation Arc delves into the power struggles within the JJK universe. The Zenin Clan’s heinous actions will compel Maki to make a severe and ruthless decision.
In the upcoming season of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, Kenjaku will orchestrate a deadly game known as The Culling Game, where revived and newly awakened sorcerers will fight to the death. More than 1000 participants are expected in this battle royale, but Kenjaku’s ultimate goal won’t be fully realized until the game concludes. Meanwhile, Sukuna has his own objectives involving Megumi. Even with Gojo’s absence, viewers will find lots to appreciate in season 3 of “Jujutsu Kaisen”.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3!
When Does Gojo Get Unsealed?
In chapter 221 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo is finally released from his seal, wrapping up the Culling Game Arc. It took the students approximately twenty days to devise a method to free him, as they encountered one obstacle after another along the way. The fight between the most powerful characters commences by the end of chapter 222.
It’s highly probable that Gojo will reappear in Season 4, engaging in an immense duel against the King of Curses. Yet, it’s not entirely impossible that this battle could be transformed into a movie instead. With 15 chapters dedicated to the fight, there’s enough material for a compelling and well-balanced cinematic experience.
Gojo Is the Most Beloved Character of Jujutsu Kaisen
Gojo has consistently been a beloved character, often ranking among the top 3 in official polls for JJK. However, his fame reached new heights in 2020, following the debut of Season 1 and upon the airing of the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc. As the anime progressed, the JJK manga also depicted a fierce battle between the strongest characters. The series garnered significant global attention from fans. The year 2024 was particularly successful for the franchise. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 won 11 awards on Crunchyroll. Shortly after the manga’s conclusion, it was confirmed that over 100 million copies of Jujutsu Kaisen were in circulation.
Despite the shocking events in Chapter 236, fans continued to brainstorm hopeful explanations. Regrettably, the author had an entirely different storyline in mind. Yet, this didn’t lessen his fame, or Gojo’s popularity for that matter. In fact, Gojo dominated the fourth and final poll with a staggering 113,000 votes, far surpassing Yuji who received 48,000 votes in second place. Gojo remains one of the most adored characters in contemporary shonen manga, so it’s no wonder fans will be saddened to see their cherished character absent in the upcoming season.
