As a longtime aficionado of the shonen genre and a devoted reader of Weekly Shonen Jump, I must say that the conclusion of iconic series like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen has left me with a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, it’s always sad to see a beloved story come to an end, but on the other, it’s exciting to witness new talents rise within the industry.
One tradition that seems to be a constant in these final chapters is the “Shitty Haircut at the End of the Manga” Curse, as humorously put by Twitter user @Ragnar_AY. It’s become a trope, albeit a small nitpick, and it’s amusing to see how each protagonist chooses to embrace their new look.
However, with Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami broke this curse in the most fashionable way possible – Yuji Itadori sporting a hairstyle that was surprisingly chic while still maintaining his original vibes. This departure from tradition is a testament to the unique storytelling of the series and its creator’s innovative approach.
That being said, I must admit that I share the sentiments of many longtime fans who have expressed their disappointment with the grand finale of Jujutsu Kaisen. While I appreciate the glimpse into the lives of our favorite characters post-Sukuna, I wish we had a more definitive resolution to some of the loose ends left behind in the final arc.
In the end, as a fan who’s been through countless shonen arcs, I can’t help but laugh at the fact that, even with a conclusion as polarizing as Jujutsu Kaisen’s, it still managed to leave me with an unforgettable experience – and a newfound appreciation for Yuji Itadori’s fashion sense.
As I eagerly bid farewell to the epic conclusions of “My Hero Academia” and “Jujutsu Kaisen”, it’s clear that Weekly Shonen Jump is stepping into a fresh chapter, presenting an exciting array of serialized works from gifted shonen manga artists. With these legendary series drawing to a close, we’re also saying goodbye to some time-honored traditions that have defined this esteemed magazine for years. Breaking one such tradition with panache, “Jujutsu Kaisen” even graced us with an official epilogue – or perhaps it was more like exorcising a longstanding curse, in true Jump fashion!
Typically, when a well-known shonen series concludes, its creator might publish additional chapters known as an epilogue to neatly wrap up any unresolved plot points from the final storyline. Interestingly, these epilogues frequently showcase the main character with an unflattering hairstyle. In the finale’s epilogue of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori sported a haircut that was surprisingly trendy yet preserved his unique personality traits.
In various Shonen Jump series such as Bleach, Naruto, and My Hero Academia, the main characters have adopted extreme hairstyles as parting gestures. Similarly, fans have criticized Eren’s hairstyle during his final appearance in Attack on Titan, but this is more of a humorous observation than a serious critique of the finale’s quality.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ending Has Been Met With Harsh Critique From Longtime Fans
In the world of anime and manga, Jujutsu Kaisen has emerged as a highly successful franchise. Yet, its grand finale, including the epilogue, has sparked discontent among longtime series fans, who feel let down. They’ve expressed their dissatisfaction without revealing specifics about each character’s post-Sukuna fate. The primary concerns revolve around the ending feeling hurried and leaving numerous plot points open for individual interpretation by fans.
In essence, although it was pleasing for many to catch a glimpse of Maki and Yuta’s grandchildren’s perspective in the epilogue, it failed to depict how any of the characters appeared after surviving their ordeals. The narrative grants us a sight of Nobara meeting her mother again, and Yuji seemingly embarking on what appears to be a date with Yuko.
Though some may have voiced criticism about the finale of my series, I, Gege Akutami, couldn’t help but reminisce warmly about Jump Festa 2025 and the overwhelming support from fans who have journeyed with me throughout the years. I can’t thank you enough! As for the anime adaptation, I must say that Director Goshozono has truly outdone himself in bringing this work to vibrant life. I eagerly look forward to seeing where the Culling Games arc will lead us and the story in the anime!
