Each new anime aspires to become the next big sensation, but one upcoming series might truly earn that informal crown. “Gachiakuta” is among the Summer 2025’s highly anticipated debuts. This series, based on the manga by Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andou, boasts a devoted fanbase and is frequently referred to as the spiritual heir to Gege Akutami’s “Jujutsu Kaisen.” In anticipation of its premiere in July, “Gachiakuta” has revealed a new poster and a brief promotional video featuring one of its beloved characters, Riyo.
The latest promotion is one of several fresh character portrayals and promotional video releases, leading up to the debut of Season 1. Previously, Rudo, Enjin, and Zanka have enjoyed brief moments in the limelight; however, now it’s Riyo’s turn to take center stage.
Gachiakuta Reveals New Riyu Promo
The latest character preview for Gachiakuta anime was posted on its official YouTube channel. This video effectively conveys the turbulent and thrilling atmosphere found in the manga, with quick-changing green text that flashes on and off, followed by a closer look at Riyu, accompanied by fitting captions.
In the advertisement, the text (originally in Japanese) translates to the character’s catchphrase, which goes: “I can hardly wait to face off against such a massive, powerful opponent!” The description for Riyu is as follows: “Riyu is a character who skillfully uses her signature weapon ‘the Ripper’ with her feet. Typically lively and jovial, she adopts a serious and tactical demeanor during battle.
The latest character poster, recently unveiled on the anime’s official account (previously Twitter), offers fans a more detailed glimpse of Riyu from the promotional video. In this poster, Riyu is depicted without her signature gas mask, showcasing her vibrant red hair that seemingly flies in all directions. Take a look at the poster below…

This translation aims to maintain the original tone and spirit while making it more accessible for an English-speaking audience. The phrase “人器” (ninigi) has been translated as “humanoid weapon,” which is a term that captures the essence of the original, but might be easier for some readers to understand. Similarly, “ギバー” (Gibber) is a play on words in Japanese, where “giba” means “through” and “ba” is a suffix meaning “person.” The English translation “human through-er” attempts to maintain this pun while being more easily understood. Other terms have been translated as closely as possible to their original meanings.

What Is Gachiakuta About?
The anime version of “Gachiakuta” is being supervised by Studio Bones, known for hits like “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” and “My Hero Academia.” Fumihiko Suganuma, who’s worked on “Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai,” will be the director. Hiroshi Seko, currently working on “Dandadan,” is overseeing the series composition. Satoshi Ishino, responsible for both animation direction and character design, is the chief animation director, and Taku Iwasaki, famous for his work on “Gurren Lagann,” will be composing the music score.
I’ve recently dived into the captivating world of “Gachiakuta,” which made its debut in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine, starting from February 2022! As of now, we’ve seen 14 thrilling volumes hit the shelves. Though it ventures into the realm of sci-fi and monsters instead of the paranormal, “Gachiakuta” shares many similarities with “Jujutsu Kaisen.” From its smooth, pulse-racing action sequences to its intricate and suspenseful narrative twists, this series has me hooked!
Rudo resides in a floating town’s slums, where the impoverished struggle under the opulent lifestyles of the wealthy who discard their waste into the void below. One day, he is wrongfully accused of murder and receives an extreme penalty – exile over the edge along with the trash. On the surface, the discarded refuse of humanity has spawned dangerous creatures. If Rudo intends to uncover the truth and seek retribution against those who sent him to Hell, he must learn a new ability and align himself with the Cleaners, a group that fights the monstrous beasts inhabiting the Pit.
Catch Gachiakuta as it comes to streaming audiences on Crunchyroll in July 2025.
