Junji Ito Plays Dead By Daylight To Celebrate Ghoulish Crossover

The survival horror game Dead By Daylight, known as one of the largest horror games available, has welcomed a variety of slasher villains from popular franchises such as Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child’s Play, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Ring. This week, the game has ventured into the realm of Junji Ito, introducing new visual styles to reflect the iconic works of the renowned horror manga artist. To celebrate this collaboration, Ito himself stepped into the game for a firsthand experience of the crossover between these horror worlds.

In case you weren’t aware, this fusion of anime and video game realms took place recently, on January 7th. Characters from Dead By Daylight like The Artist, The Spirit, The Twins, The Trickster, and The Dredge have received fresh appearances modeled after Miss Fuchi, Tomie, The Hikizuris, Soichi, and Half Spirits’ Torments respectively. As for the survivors, Yui Kimura, Yun-Jin Lee, and Kate Denson have been reimagined as Tsukiko, Terumi, and the “Puppet’s Distressed Ballet.

Junji Ito is a Model Main

As well as renowned manga artist Junji Ito recently unveiling a new video, showcasing his role as a “Let’s Player,” he also shared his thoughts on this collaboration. Here’s what Ito expressed about his characters venturing into the Fog: “This time around, I got to try playing Dead By Daylight. The characters I developed transform into killers in the game and carry out some truly horrific acts. It was quite emotional to witness them becoming even more terrifying entities after departing from my hands.

Dead By Daylight’s Anime Future?

It’s still uncertain at this point, but there’s a possibility that more anime characters similar to Junji Ito’s works might join Dead by Daylight in the future. Last year, Behaviour Interactive conducted a survey among players, asking which anime series they’d like to see appear in the game. Some of the franchises mentioned were Berserk, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Hunter x Hunter, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Jujutsu Kaisen, Overlord, and Tokyo Ghoul. Although Dead by Daylight hasn’t hinted at creating an anime adaptation of its own, it seems open to delving into the world of anime.

In terms of Junji Ito’s works, one of his most significant creations, Uzumaki, was recently adapted into an anime by Adult Swim. Although no further anime adaptations have been announced, it’s expected that other notable works of his will be adapted in the future. Fangoria Studios is currently working on three live-action feature films based on Ito’s work, such as Bloodsucking Darkness and The Mystery of The Haunted House. No release dates have been disclosed yet for these projects, but given the source material, they promise to be quite unsettling for audiences when they eventually hit the big screen.

Regarding live-action horror movies, it’s worth mentioning that “Dead By Daylight” is set to join the ranks with its own chilling movie, courtesy of Blumhouse Productions. Although filming has not yet commenced for this upcoming slasher film, Jason Blum confirmed last year that the script is still in development. In time, it will be intriguing to discover which original or well-known horror icons might grace the screen in this project.
