As a lifelong DC Comics fan who has been through countless story arcs, reboots, and character deaths, I can confidently say that the announcement of Justice League Unlimited has me more thrilled than ever before! Sign me up!

Over the past few months, DC has made several exciting announcements, and one of the most significant happened at San Diego Comic-Con. Among other reveals, DC unveiled that Mark Waid and Dan Mora would collaborate on a new series, and it’s not just any series – it’s Justice League Unlimited! This upcoming project features a rotating lineup of heroes alongside the core Trinity, making it quite intriguing. What makes this even more exciting is that recent updates have been shared about the series, which will explore the aftermath of Darkseid’s shocking demise in the All In Special.

Darkseid No More

Justice League Unlimited Preview Reveals New Details and Major Death

One of the major disclosures from the formal summary for Justice League Unlimited #1 is that Darkseid has perished following the All In Special, leaving a massive power void in the DC Universe. A replacement has surfaced nonetheless, and to combat this ultimate menace, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman will rally as many heroes as they can to confront the new danger directly, and it is from here that Justice League Unlimited begins its storyline.

Beyond that major disclosure, it’s important to note that Ray Palmer’s Atom Project triggers another significant chain reaction. This, according to the synopsis, sets off a fierce competition between heroes and villains for dominance over Earth’s metahuman powers. The comic issue hints at an unexpected twist on its final page, and it suggests that worlds could both flourish and perish.

The high stakes are evident in this situation, and during an interview with DC, Waid discussed the idea of assembling a larger and stronger team. He explained that the incidents depicted in Absolute Power made the heroes realize that perhaps the event could have been avoided if the Justice League had remained united and communicated effectively. As a result, it’s not just about the traditional Justice League working together; instead, they are reaching out to everyone with powers who wishes to join the team. This includes the Justice Society, the Titans, and key figures like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will assess potential threats and determine who is best suited to handle them.

The fact that it boasts variant covers by industry legends such as Jim Lee, Andy Kubert, Howard Porter, Ed Benes, and Simone Bianchi only adds to the excitement. And if that’s not enough, there are even more variant covers by Dave Wilkins, Edwin Galmon, Yasmine Putri, Daniel Sampere, and a blank sketch variant!
