Justin Baldoni Talks “Complex Personalities” on It Ends With Us Set

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Justin Baldoni’s journey with “It Ends With Us” is a testament to the intricacies and challenges that come with juggling multiple roles in a project. His collaborative approach, despite occasional doubts about his ability to lead, speaks volumes about his maturity and humility as a director.

Justin Baldoni is getting candid about the delicate balance acting in and directing a film.

In his experience, It Ends With Us represented his initial endeavor to handle two tasks concurrently within a single project. He openly acknowledged that it presented quite a formidable challenge at certain junctures, particularly when coordinating with numerous distinct perspectives during filming on set.

In an interview with Today.com on August 9th, Justin expressed that every film is a marvel. He added that while dealing with intricate personalities, it’s essential to align everyone towards a shared vision. Inevitably, errors are committed, but the challenge lies in learning how to overcome them.

Instead of directing the film adaptation of the 2016 Colleen Hoover novel, which features Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, and Isabela Ferrer, he took a highly collaborative approach.

“I’m a ‘best idea wins’ person,” he explained, “and I always have been, to a fault.”

To be honest, Justin expressed that occasionally he had the feeling that the crew might be questioning whether he knew what he was doing or had a clear perspective, as he was so open to having his ideas adjusted.

As someone who has lived a good portion of their life, I’ve learned that it’s not necessary to listen to everyone all the time. However, there have been moments when I’ve found myself stepping back too much and missing out on valuable opportunities for growth and connection. These experiences have taught me the importance of finding the right balance between being open-minded and protecting my own well-being.

However, Justin, who is a father to Maiya, 9, and Maxwell, 6 with his wife Emily Baldoni, maintains that everything turned out well in the end. He further stated, “I don’t think inspiration or creativity arises from just one individual.”

In various instances, he believed it was appropriate to relinquish control, such as when he delegated the handling of sensitive scenes involving domestic violence to the intimacy coordinator and stunt coordinator in the movie production.

He clarified that his intention was never to allow an objectifying perspective (male gaze) to intrude upon these critical instances, which demand authentic portrayal. He wished to depict the experiences of all women who encounter such moments daily.

In addition to expressing gratitude towards Jane the Virgin’s alumna, he also acknowledged his costar and former creative muse, Blake (a producer), for her contributions to the series.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: “When discussing Blake’s impact on that movie, one succinct statement simply won’t suffice. Her vibrant presence and indelible influence permeate the film from start to finish, significantly enhancing its quality and making it truly exceptional.”

Expressing his appreciation for Ryan Reynolds’ creativity, Justin mentioned that he’d be thrilled to collaborate with the couple once more, if they’re willing to have him on board.

Regarding Blake, he too has discussed the cooperative aspect of the film, and interestingly enough, he mentioned that Ryan played a role in penning one of the key scenes in the movie.

At the New York City premiere of the film on August 6th, she shared with TopMob News an interesting fact: “It was my husband who penned our memorable rooftop scene,” she disclosed. “This detail has been unknown until now.”

Despite the harmonious compliments exchanged between Justin and Blake about their movie, there are whispers among fans that the filming process might not have gone as seamlessly as suggested. Some hint at Justin’s absence during promotional activities with his co-stars, fueling speculation. For instance, a user commented on social media platform X (previously known as Twitter) on August 7, “Something definitely happened during the filming of It Ends With Us. I need to uncover the truth.”

While another joked, “Justin baldoni and the It Ends With Us cast beefing is so funny to me.”

In response to rumors concerning multiple edits of the movie, a source close to the production shared with TopMob News, “During post-production, there are usually many revisions, which is simply part of the process. Everyone involved concurred on the final cut of the film and agreed it’s the optimal version of the movie.”
