I’ve been keeping an eye on the ongoing saga unfolding in Takeru Hokazono’s manga masterpiece, “Kagurabachi.” This captivating series, which first graced our screens in September 2023, is yet to be animated. To date, four volumes have been released, with each new chapter unveiled weekly on the Manga Plus app. As of now, a total of 63 chapters have seen the light of day.
The narrative revolves around Chihiro Rokuhira, who embarks on an epic quest to recover the magical swords that were pilfered from his father. Tragedy befalls him, fueling his thirst for revenge and the weight of his father’s heritage. Unbeknownst to his adversaries, Chihiro’s father crafted a seventh enchanted blade specifically for his son.
1) Since these enchanted swords hold immense powers that could make them dangerous in the wrong hands, they are potentially lethal weapons. The AnimeJapan 2025 event, set for next year, will unveil thrilling updates on numerous anime productions. A poll has been initiated on their website, allowing fans to choose which manga they’d like to see animated from a list of 47 series; however, Kagurabachi is not included in this year’s nominations. This mirrors what happened with Sakamoto Days last year, as it was also excluded and later announced an anime adaptation for the same year. Given that AnimeJapan 2025 seems to be hinting at something, it’s likely we could see an announcement regarding Kagurabachi’s animation sometime this year.
Kagurabachi Has Sparked Anime Rumors Several Times in the Past
Over the past year, there’s been a buzz surrounding potential new anime titled “Kagurabachi”. This chatter started back in July 2024, and it picked up steam recently when Shueisha filed trademark applications for the name across various categories, including animation. Such moves are vital for securing rights associated with upcoming anime projects. For fans of this prospective series, these developments are certainly a positive sign, fueling their anticipation for “Kagurabachi”.
Furthermore, it’s been reported by Toyo Keizai that CygamesPictures, referred to as a “Cyberagent x Shochiku Production,” is set to work on the anime adaptation. Nevertheless, this information has yet to be verified by an official source. Notably, Cyberagent is the production studio behind the hit idol drama, Oshi no Ko. Simultaneously, in the same month, Netflix hinted at upcoming anime adaptations for Kagurabachi and Akane-banashi.
Delighted to share a sneak peek! Netflix Japan’s official account unveiled a trailer titled “Friends, Anime, and Netflix,” showcasing quick glances at already adapted anime series such as One Piece, Sakamoto Days, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Blue Box. The caption excitedly proclaims, “A massive selection of Jump anime titles on Netflix! Relive the classics and catch the latest sensations right here!” Interestingly, this trailer also hints at upcoming adaptations by displaying panels from Kagurabachi and Akane-banashi mangas, fueling speculation about Netflix potentially acquiring the rights to other Shonen Jump favorites like Sakamoto Days.
Given that the manga “Kagurabachi” consists of just 63 chapters at present, it’s conceivable that a 12 or 13-episode series could suffice. Typically, it’s premature for an anime to announce an adaptation, but it’s possible that the studio has initiated production ahead of schedule. However, Anime Japan 2025 in March doesn’t guarantee any updates on “Kagurabachi”. Given its popularity, there might be an announcement this year.
