Kaiju No. 8 Final Chapter Soon: Will Kafka Achieve His Dream Ending?

The popular manga series “Kaiju No. 8” by Naoya Matsumoto is preparing to conclude its five-year run on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app this summer. Since its digital release, it has become one of the most successful franchises from Shonen Jump. The franchise has already reached new heights with the debut of its anime adaptation last year and a second season scheduled for later this Summer. However, the manga itself has been preparing for its end for some time now.

Since last year, the final chapter of the popular manga “Kaiju No. 8” has been unfolding, with Matsumoto skillfully concluding the series of battles against the Identified Kaiju forces that Kaiju No. 9 had been unleashing for several months. With the final confrontation now seemingly concluded, it’s been officially announced that this long-running manga is wrapping up soon. As the end of “Kaiju No. 8” draws near, here’s what you need to know to prepare for its finale.

When Does Kaiju No. 8 End?

After the publication of Chapter 127 last week, it’s been revealed that the popular manga Kaiju No. 8 will be concluding with only two more chapters remaining. This means that Naoya Matsumoto’s manga series is set to conclude with the release of Chapter 129, though a specific release date for this final chapter has yet to be announced. The second-to-last chapter, Chapter 128, is scheduled for publication on June 20th in Japan (and June 19th internationally), and it’s expected that the final chapter will follow at least two weeks later. In essence, we are now approaching the start of the end.

Over the past year, the comic series Kaiju No. 8 has been coming out consistently, with about three weeks between each new installment. However, the timing of the finale has caught readers off guard. Although it suggested that this would be the final showdown for Kaiju No. 8, fans have realized that the series is just barely touching upon the Kaiju’s role in global mythology. This is more evident now, as some significant revelations about the Kaiju have emerged during the final stages of the storyline, indicating that they have been part of Japanese culture for numerous generations.

What Happens in Kaiju No. 8’s Final Arc?

The climactic phase of “Kaiju No. 8” commenced as Kaiju No. 9 introduced its newly identified Kaiju, marking the onset of a contemporary Kaiju Disaster with the appearance of Kaijus 11 through 15. Confronted by these monstrous adversaries, Kafka and his companions displayed the fruits of their training, engaging in individual combats against the dreadful new enemies. Over the ensuing months, each significant fight reached its conclusion, culminating with Kaiju No. 9 disclosing that it was the ultimate enemy Kafka had to vanquish forever.

Collaborating with Mina Ashiro and other members of the JAKDF, Kafka managed to contain Kaiju No. 9 until it pushed him beyond his limits. It appeared that Kafka was slain by the monster’s own hands, but he later uncovered the source of the insect Kaiju that had possessed him and granted him power initially. The insect transported Kafka back to feudal Japan, where warriors from that era fought Kaiju threats using rudimentary samurai-like weapons. However, one encounter revealed a colossally powerful kaiju that effortlessly annihilated them with minimal resistance.

The remnants of fallen soldiers, tainted by sorrow and rage, merged with their Kaiju weaponry to create the insect-like Kaiju that eventually formed a connection with Kafka. This explains his ability to sustain his transformation and the relentless aggression towards other Kaijus. Known as the Meireki Kaiju, this colossal monster rampaged for 100 days before disappearing beneath the earth. Later, it combined with Kaiju No. 9 to emerge as the ultimate adversary in the series.

Using this newfound understanding, Kafka chooses to completely merge with the Kaiju within him, abandoning his human identity for a more complete transformation of his Kaiju form. Assuming the role of the Meireki Kaiju, one of the most powerful creatures even beyond the capabilities of measurement by JAKDF, Kafka dealt the decisive blow to the colossal adversary in Chapter 127 of the series, signaling that the climactic final battle is probably reaching its peak.

How Will Kaiju No. 8 End?

In their joint battle against Meireki, Kafka manages to deliver a decisive blow by penetrating its core during the third-to-last chapter. The upcoming penultimate chapter is expected to conclude this struggle, as the threat posed by Meireki – the primary Kaiju menace – has been eradicated. However, the final epilogue chapter will still hold secrets about the future of Japan and its soldiers following these events.

In this upcoming battle, Kafka has already conquered Kaiju No. 9, making it the final foe. However, much about these Kaiju remains a mystery. If the Meireki is indeed the origin of the Kaiju threat, then perhaps we won’t see any more such threats once this battle is over. After all, Kafka may have sacrificed his humanity for the purpose of defeating the Meireki; but when this ordeal ends, he might find a way to reclaim his ordinary life.

After much struggle, Kafka has managed to turn his dreams into reality through this fight. He aims to be recognized as the hero he always aspired to be as a child, who watched in despair as Kaiju destroyed homes. He yearns for a joyful conclusion to this ordeal, but even if everyone remains safe, that would bring him happiness too.
