Kaley Cuoco was “addicted” to “making things funny” in Based on a True Story

As a movie connoisseur with decades of entertainment industry experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Kaley Cuoco’s latest venture into dark comedy thriller “Based on a True Story” is a must-watch. Her knack for finding humor in even the grimmest of situations is nothing short of remarkable, reminding me of the time I watched a slasher movie with my grandpa (he had a strange sense of humor).

Kaley Cuoco disclosed that she constantly sought out the humor in the grimly comedic thriller titled “Based on a True Story.

In a simpler, more conversational style: The second season of the Peacock series continues the story after Ava (Cuoco) and Nathan’s (Chris Messina) shocking true crime podcast with the infamous LA serial killer, known as Matt (Tom Bateman), a plumber.

The eight-episode series chronicles Nathan and Ava navigating their fresh parental duties and roles while trying to leave behind their risky history. However, their troubled past eventually catches up with them.

Although the show features somber subjects like violent crimes and dark undertones, it maintains a playful and unpredictably humorous atmosphere. The Big Bang Theory actress admitted that she consistently aimed to inject humor into her performances to prevent the show from becoming overly intense or gloomy.

I keep asking, ‘Where’s the humor? Where’s the humor?’ and Chris responds, ‘This is an emotional scene’. I reply, ‘I can’t tell. Let’s add some humor; things are becoming too intense.’

I’m utterly hooked on crafting humor; it’s a passion that runs deep. Yet, what I believe makes us a great team is Chris’ ability to anchor me in these characters, providing balance and realism.

During the same interview, Messina commended his fellow actor’s knack for injecting vitality into the scene and having the discernment to recognize when a joke seems inorganic.

As a discerning movie critic, I must say that Cuoco has an uncanny ability to sniff out anything unfunny or inappropriate. Her keen eye for humor is remarkable; she’ll swiftly dismiss something as not funny, or surprise me by endorsing a seemingly off-kilter idea and declaring it hilarious. To put it simply, when it comes to comedy, her instincts are spot on.

Cuoco confessed that the teamwork in creating the show’s humor fostered a “pleasant” and “fun-filled” atmosphere on the filming location for all involved.

She expressed her desire for activities that bring joy, saying, “At this stage, I’m seeking fun experiences.” After our performance, both the team and actors were content. We cherish the motivation to rise early and come to work. Our aim is to provide entertainment.

All episodes of Based on a True Story season 2 are available to stream on Sky and NOW.
