Karate Kid: Legends Drops a New Trailer for the Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio Team-Up

In the latest sneak peek for “Karate Kid: Legends,” a fresh chapter in the beloved karate saga begins. What started with Ralph Macchio’s portrayal in 1984’s “The Karate Kid” has blossomed into an expansive franchise. The 2010 remake featuring Jackie Chan demonstrated that fans still cherished the tale of the Karate Kid, a sentiment that persisted through Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” series, where Macchio reprised his role. In “Karate Kid: Legends,” the two timelines collide as Ben Wang takes on the title role, navigating a new city, making new friends, and fending off a pesky bully amidst unwelcome attention.

The trailer for “Karate Kid: Legends” opens as Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) chats with Li Fong (Ben Wang) about leaving Japan and the necessity of moving on, even if it means departing. With his mother (Ming-Na Wen), Li Fong moves to New York City, where he enrolls in a new school and makes a fresh acquaintance. Yet, this tranquility is short-lived when he encounters Connor, the local karate kingpin.

Mr. Han persuades Ralph Macchio’s character, Daniel LaRusso, to instruct Li in Miyagi Karate. At first, LaRusso refuses, but Mr. Han continues to ask. Eventually, LaRusso travels to New York City and begins working with Mr. Han to train and educate Li for the upcoming karate competition. They combine kung fu and karate using the “Miyagi Method.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the latest developments from Sony Pictures, particularly the unveiling of the trailer for “Karate Kid: Legends” at CinemaCon. While we’re eagerly awaiting this new installment, it’s also worth noting that fans have been gifted an official release date for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” the much-anticipated conclusion to Sony’s Spider-Verse trilogy. Mark your calendars for June 4, 2027!

In this final chapter, we witness a gripping confrontation between Miles Morales and his Prowler counterpart. The film promises to be even more spectacular than its predecessors, with producer Phil Lord assuring us that it will be “bigger and bolder” with “entirely new animation.” Exclusive previews of these innovations were showcased at CinemaCon, leaving us eagerly anticipating the full experience.

In case you’re not already excited, the upcoming fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland has officially been titled “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start”. This upcoming Sony and Marvel Studios production is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, nestled between two major Marvel events: “Avengers: Doomsday” (May 1, 2026), and “Avengers: Secret Wars” (May 7, 2027).

The upcoming Spider-Man film is being developed by Amy Pascal, known for the Spider-Verse series through her company Pascal Pictures, and Kevin Feige, who oversaw the Jon Watts-directed Home trilogy of Spider-Man movies under Marvel Studios. Principal photography for this new movie is set to start this summer with Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, at the helm.

Under the direction of Jonathan Entwistle, the cast for Karate Kid: Legends includes Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. This film is set to hit theaters on May 30th.
