Karlach's Rage Magic: The Gathering - Secret Lair Cards Revealed

As a seasoned Baldur’s Gate 3 fanatic with countless hours poured into the game, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering – Secret Lair drops! With Karlach’s Rage, Wizards of the Coast has struck gold by featuring none other than the resilient and tragic heroine, Karlach.

Enthusiasts of Baldur’s Gate 3 are eagerly anticipating, as much as they can be, the significant Magic: The Gathering – Secret Lair drop due later this month to mark the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. Two sets showcasing characters from Larian Studios’ highly-praised game will hit stores on August 29th. Earlier reveals unveiled five reprints with borderless artwork depicting everyone’s beloved vampire spawn for the Astarion’s Thirst, and today, Wizards of the Coast has disclosed the five cards for Karlach’s Rage through ScreenRant.

Given Karlach, a beloved companion tank in Baldur’s Gate 3, is highly valued by players due to her durability and enormous spirit, Larian Studios’ narrative for her is often considered one of the saddest in the game because of her conclusions. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that Wizards would want to utilize this character as much as they can. And there’s nothing quite like watching Karlach subdue some goblins on a Magic: The Gathering card!

The cards included in the Karlach’s Rage Commander Deck include:

Karlach, Fury of Avernus

  • Legendary Creature – Tiefling Barbarian
  • Whenever you attack, if it’s the first combat phase of the turn, untap all attacking creatures. They gain first strike until end of turn. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase.
  • Choose a Background
  • “I never wanted to serve Zariel. Forced to fight and fight I did.”

Stranglehold

  • Enchantment
  • Your opponents can’t search libraries. If an opponent would begin an extra turn, that player skips that turn instead.
  • “Let’s cook with fire, baby.”

Dolmen Gate

  • Artifact
  • Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to attacking creatures you control.
  • “Stick close to Mama K.”

City on Fire

  • Convoke
  • If a source you control would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals triple that damage instead.
  • “Avernus was never my home…”

Thrill of Possibility

  • Instant
  • As an additional cost to cast this spell, discard a card.
  • Draw two cards.
  • “May we live every day like it’s our last. ‘Cause you never know when your last will come.”

On August 27th, Karlach’s Rage is just one out of a total of five Secret Lair drops. Each of these drops will cost $29.99 individually, while foiled versions of the same cards can be purchased for $39.99 apiece.
