The hit television show “2 Broke Girls” concluded prematurely, leaving its story incomplete, but its main star, Kat Dennings, has expressed a willingness to revisit her character Max Black. During an interview with the Associated Press, Dennings reminisced about her time on the show and hinted at the possibility of a revival, stating, “I’d be open to it.” However, Dennings also acknowledged some hurdles that might come with a return of “2 Broke Girls,” highlighting the logistical challenges involved.
Essentially, Beth (Behrs) and I are currently starring in sitcoms, so we’ll have to put any reboot on hold, Dennings mentioned. He pointed out that coordinating our busy schedules for a reboot would be challenging. Later, he expressed his disappointment over the show’s abrupt termination after season 6, particularly because it concluded with a cliffhanger, which wasn’t great for fans who enjoyed the series.
The sitcom “2 Broke Girls” ran on CBS from 2011 to 2017, centering around Max Black (portrayed by Kat Dennings), a New York City waitress, and her former high-society roommate Caroline Channing (played by Beth Behrs). Following the arrest of Caroline’s father due to his illegal business dealings, which resulted in the confiscation of their family wealth, Caroline was forced to take a job at a diner in Brooklyn alongside Max. A significant aspect of “2 Broke Girls” revolved around Max and Caroline’s quest to accumulate $250,000 to open a cupcake shop. Each episode concluded with a tally of the money saved (or lost) by Max and Caroline during their venture.
Following a run of 138 episodes, the sitcom “2 Broke Girls” came to an end when Max agreed to marry her boyfriend Randy (played by Ed Quinn). Moreover, Randy had collaborated on a film about Caroline’s life, but unfortunately, the damage to Caroline’s expensive rental gown at the movie premiere drained their business savings completely. The finale of “2 Broke Girls” seemed to be laying groundwork for Max’s marriage and a financial turnaround for her and Caroline in season 7; however, the show’s termination left those storylines unfinished.
2 Broke Girls experienced a decline in viewership during its sixth season, which might not be the only reason for its sudden cancellation. Additional factors like CBS lacking complete ownership of the sitcom and the introduction of new shows to their lineup at that time are also being considered. Since then, both Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs have found continued success in television. Dennings has appeared alongside Tim Allen on ABC’s Shifting Gears, while Behrs can be seen on The Neighborhood on CBS. Moreover, Dennings reprised her role as Darcy Lewis within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Disney+ shows like WandaVision and What If…? as well as in 2021’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
Despite the abrupt conclusion of “2 Broke Girls” leaving Max and Caroline’s story hanging in mid-air, it’s not uncommon for popular but prematurely ended shows to make a return, often on streaming platforms such as Netflix. With Kat Dennings expressing interest in reprising her role under suitable conditions, there’s a possibility that “2 Broke Girls” could find itself among the list of sitcoms that were given a second opportunity in the future.
