Kate Middleton is paying homage to her royal predecessors.
On March 10, the Princess of Wales joined her spouse, Prince William, at Westminster Abbey in London, England, for the annual Commonwealth Day service. In tribute to both Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II, she carefully selected elements for her outfit.
On this special day honoring the 56 nations of the Commonwealth, Kate elegantly chose an all-red outfit. She donned a coatdress by Catherine Walker and accessorized with a hat from Gina Foster. To finish her look, she added Gianvito Rossi pumps with pointed toes and carried a shoulder bag from Miu Miu.
In a heart-pounding moment that took me back to my own wedding day, I proudly adorned the Collingwood teardrop earrings as I walked into the church where I exchanged vows with my beloved husband, the Prince of Wales, back in April 2011. These very same earrings once graced my mother-in-law, Princess Diana, and were gifted to her by a London jeweler prior to her wedding to King Charles in 1981. Throughout the years, I’ve had the immense honor of wearing them on various occasions, including one of my 40th birthday portraits in 2022.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find it quite fitting that she paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II by adorning herself with the very pearl choker that once graced Her Majesty’s neck. This exquisite four-strand necklace is adorned with pearls that were presented to the Queen by the Japanese government during one of her state visits in the 70s, and I have observed Diana wearing it on occasion throughout her marriage as well.
On Commonwealth Day, it was Kate’s initial attendance at the gathering in two years. She had missed the 2024 event due to her cancer treatments. Luckily, she recently provided an optimistic report about her health progress following the completion of her chemotherapy.
She expressed her sense of relief now that she’s in remission and continues to focus on her recovery. After all, those who have faced a cancer diagnosis understand the need for time to adapt to a different lifestyle. Yet, she is excited about the promising year that lies ahead.
